Summary of grade level and GLCEs to be assessed This is a first grade level assessment and it covers the GLCEs below. NUMBER AND OPERATIONS (Count, write, and order numbers) N.ME.01.01 Count to 110 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s, starting from any number in the sequence; count to 500 by 100’s and 10’s; use ordinals to identify position in a sequence, e.g., 1st, 2nd, 3rd. N.ME.01.02 Read and write numbers to 110 and relate them to the quantities they represent. N.ME.01.03 Order numbers to 110; compare using phrases such as “same as”, “more than”, “greater than”, “fewer than”; use = symbol. Arrange small sets of numbers in increasing or decreasing order, e.g., write the following from smallest to largest: 21, 16, 35, 8. N.ME.01.05 Understand that a number to the right of another number on the number line is bigger and that a number to the left is smaller. This test should take ten to fifteen minutes for students to complete. It took my partners and I approximately fifteen minutes to discuss and thoroughly finish it. LITERATURE CONNECTIONS: “Let’s Count It Out, Jesse Bear” by Nancy White Carlstrom “Rooster’s Off to See the World” by Eric Carle “The Counting Race” by Margaret McNamara LESSON IDEAS: - Counting 1s and 2s – “Lets count the dots” virtual learning http://www.internet4classrooms.com/skills_1st_math.htm - Use manipulative such as small animal objects at math center 6- 8 students at a time. Have them count all the green ones, red ones, etc. Also show them how to place it in standard configuration form. - Comparing Numbers – “ Everyone gets a number” - Students are each assigned a number - Students make and color their number - Students demonstrate after, before, and between (teacher guided) - Ordering Numbers – “Who wants to be orderly” Numbers have orders - Students get into groups and each have a zip lock with different number of objects - Students decide which order they want ascending or descending to put their objects in. Name: _____________ Date: ____________ This test will show me that you can count, write, and order numbers. It will also show me you can put them from smallest to biggest order, know what comes before, after, and between numbers, and count by 2s.
