The values are the number of days in a week for the listed type of weather.
These values are based on the type of weather during the day with consideration of whether it will affect
your holiday. For example, the odd shower of rain lasting for less than an hour is not considered unless
there are number of showers. The rainfall which is taken into consideration very rarely lasts for more than two or
three hours.
Over the period of one year, rain lasting for more than four hours during the day only occurs three or four times. I
have not considered the quantity of rain since this can vary enormously say from 1mm to 50mm in less than one
hour. If a particular week has say 1.2 days of rain, this would imply that rain lasting for more than one hour
occurred an average of 1.2 days over the past five years for that week.
Sun ; This implies sun for most or all of the day. The odd cloud, haze or late (after 6 pm) storm is not considered.
Sun and Cloud ; This can be a mix during the day or cloud in the morning and sun in the afternoon or vice versa.
Rain could occur on these days.
Dull ; This can cover a broad spread of weather types from dark heavy cloud cover with rain to a light cloud
cover for the best part of the day. For most of the year a dull day does not imply a miserable day, indeed , during
the hot summer it can make a welcome change and allows more physical activities to be enjoyed. In the winter
however it can (but not always) be miserable. This is somewhat compensated by a warm wood burning stove and
the abiltiy to view spectacular cloud formations across the valley.
Snow ; Quite rare in the village but fairly common on the surrounding hills and abundant about an hours drive
north. It is spectacular and beautiful when we do get a heavy fall, but it soon melts on the southern slopes with the
arrival of the sun. The road to the village has only been blocked thee times in ten years and then only for one day
each time.
