Top Elite Sire 2013

S34/105 APPLEWITCH PURE MAGIC 1992

Silver Grade Stallion

Sire: Peveril Peter Piper Dam: Marydore Apple

Magic is our home bred stallion and was the first foal from my riding mare

Marydore Apple. He has 93 registered stock in the UK plus progeny in

France, Holland, Belgium, Sweden and Australia. 2013 has been an amazing year for Magic…on April 12 he celebrated his 21 st Birthday and it seems his progeny have been winning all year to enable him to become Top Elite Sire, what an honour for our small family run stud.

It all began with the NFPB&CS Colt Assessment when Applewitch Roan

Magic, who travelled down from Lincoln, was the top colt with his half brother Lovelyhill Folklore in second place. May was just as amazing with

Applewitch Magister winning the Open Ridden, NPS Silver Medal &

Champion Ridden at the Western Association of the WP&CS held in Exeter.

Next came Marleydenes Shiraz winning the M&M Ridden Championship at

Windsor and taking the first qualifier of the season for Olympia…Shiraz went on to qualify for HOYS at the Three Counties Show and again for

Olympia at the Bath & West, as well as the NFU Mutual Open NF Ridden at the NPS Summer Championship Show.

Pilley Bailey Facination Applewitch Fantasia

Furzley Magician had more success at the Northern New Forest Pony Elite

Show…NF Inhand Champion, Reserve Ridden Champion, Overall NF

Champion and finally Supreme M&M Champion.

June saw Knaveash Superstition winning the three year old filly class, the

Youngstock Championship and finishing up Reserve NF Champion Inhand at the NFPEC Show. Applewitch Roan Fantasia won a large Open Ridden class and was Reserve Ridden Champion. The NPS Junior Ridden Championship was won by Burley Mystic.

July brought the New Forest Show when Pilley Bailey Fascination came third in the yearling filly class on her first outing, while Forestheath Matrix

was second in the Competition Pony 4 years & over. The first section of the

Large Open Ridden was won by Applewitch Roan Fantasia (sadly the classes were running so late by then she did not get the chance to go against the winner of the second section). Furzley Magician enjoyed great success at the Ponies UK Summer Championship Show in August by winning the Supreme M&M Championship.

Burley Prophecy was WHP Champion at Ringwood & Ellingham Show and also at The Jenny Seymour Memorial Show. She was Novice Ridden

Champion at the Breed Show and also graded in the jumping at Ford Farm in September, before going on to take 3 rd place in the NFPB&CS Novice NF race across the forest on Boxing Day.

Back to the Breed Show…in the 2 & 3 year old Stud Colt class Lovelyhill

Folklore (2yrs) came third. Furzley Magician took second place in the

Adults Prelim 14 Grading Test which meant he has now Elite Graded status.

The usual annual battle in the Large Gelding class took place between

Applewitch Hokus Pokus and Furzley Magician for first place, however it was not to be this year and they only managed 2 nd & 3 rd places. However

Furzley Magician secured the Reserve Gelding Championship. Magic’s daughters also did well…Knaveash Superstition 2nd in the three year old class, Applewitch Allure 3 rd in the two year olds and the star of the day

Pilleybailey Fascination, won the yearling class (large) and was overall Filly

Champion. She also collected the Gaza Cup for the best pony owned by a

Young Commoner.

News from overseas…Mallards Wood Flashlight gained his 5 year old stallion licence with high marks in Sweden. Lovelyhill Magical Heights, a licensed stallion in France won the three year old Colt class and became Champion de France et Supreme Champion NF at the

Sologne Pony Show and already has orders for frozen semen in Belgium. Aylestone

Appleblossom now adds dressage wins to her numerous showing ones and has just started cross country, while Bain Park Nebelio is also doing very well - both are in Victoria

Australia.

Marleydene Shiraz

Magic’s sons Marleydenes Shiraz and Applewitch Magister stood 3 rd and

4 th at the Horse of the Year Show.

The final accolade came at the BSPS

Heritage Mountain & Moorland Final at the Olympia Christmas Show, when

Shiraz came 4 th & Best of Breed.

After the Championship we joined owner

Alex Hawkins and her family in their box overlooking the arena where we drank pink champagne to celebrate the pink pony’s success, it was surreal!

We left Olympia to fly out to Australia for Christmas with our family…the

New Year began with a trip to Victoria to see some of Magic’s children, it was just amazing to see his progeny on the other side of the world!

I am so grateful to Magic…he has brought such happiness to us and certainly enriched our lives in many ways.
