1 WINCHESTER ELITE BULL & REPLACEMENT FEMALE SALE This sale is designed to provide producers of high quality beef breeding seedstock a marketing opportunity for their cattle while at the same time enabling other producers an opportunity to purchase known genetics which will improve the genetic base of their herds. All listed sales guarantees are between the seller and buyer of the cattle only. Sales management and the advising organizations of the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, and Virginia Cooperative Extension are not responsible for any guarantees listed in the sale requirements on any cattle in the sale. Winchester Elite Heifer Requirements Physical Requirements Age – Stated birth date with projected age at calving of 22 to 30 months Frame Size – All heifers must be frame score 4.5 to 6.5 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Structure – All heifers must be deemed structurally correct by the local sale evaluation committee. Muscling – All heifers must possess adequate muscling without being extreme. Muscling score now described as U.S. Feeder Calf muscle score of 1 to 2.5 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Body Condition Score – All heifers must be BCS 5 to 7 (1=emaciated; 9=obese) as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Genetics Breeds – Any beef breed or breed combinations are eligible, but the breeds must be specified. Service Sires – Service sires must be identified and meet minimum EPD’s for their breed Health Vaccinations Bred Heifers- IBR, BVD, PI3 and 7-way clostridial. Five-way leptospirosis (2 doses), Vibriosis and Hardjo Bovis. Open Heifers- IBR, BVD, PI3 (modified live) and 7-way clostridial. Five-way leptospirosis (2 doses), Vibriosis and Hardjo Bovis Parasite Control Endecticide (controls both external and internal parasites) within 30 days of the sale and after February 1. 2 Reproductive Requirements Bred Heifers- All heifers must have conceived within the first 50 days following artificial insemination and/or natural mating. All heifers must be pregnancy checked within 60 days of the sale. It is recommended that you use the veterinarian available at the sale for pregnancy evaluation. Pregnant guarantee – All heifers will be guaranteed pregnant on sale day. If a heifer is sold as pregnant and is proven open by a veterinarian within 30 days of the sale, the consignor will replace the heifer or refund the sale price of the heifer and take possession of the heifer. Open Heifers- Open guarantee – All heifers will be guaranteed open on sale day (except heifers sold as exposed). If a heifer sold as open is proven pregnant by a veterinarian within 30 days of the sale, the consignor will replace the heifer or refund the sale price of the heifer and take possession of the heifer. Defects Heifers with bad eyes, horns, rat-tails, bob-tails or frozen ears will not be accepted. Any lame heifers will not be accepted. Disposition No heifers judged to be EXCESSIVELY NERVOUS OR AGGRESSIVE will be accepted. Ownership- Heifers must have been owned at least 90 days. Cows with Calves Requirements Cows will have been owned a minimum of 9 months. Only cows 5 years of age or less will be sold. Cows with Fall calves in Spring sales must be rebred and examined safe in calf. Cows with Spring calves in Spring sales will be open. Cows with Fall calves must have calved by November 1, 2009. Cows must have sound udders. All cows must have a body condition score of 4.5 to 7 and a muscling score now described as U.S. Feeder Calf muscle score of 1 to 2.5 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Cows must have been vaccinated against IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, 7-way clostridial, 5-way lepto, vibrio, and hardjo bovis within 60 to14 days of the sale. Cattle receiving their initial vaccination more than 60 days before the sale must have a booster vaccination before or at the sale. All calves between 60 and 90 days of age must have received a 7-way clostridial vaccination. All calves over 90 days of age must be vaccinated with IBR, BVD, PI3, BRSV, and 7-way clostridial. Calves must exhibit adequate growth for their age. No cows judged to be EXCESSIVELY NERVOUS OR AGGRESSIVE will be accepted. 3 Bred Cow Requirements Cows will have been owned a minimum of 9 months. Only cows 5 years of age or less will be sold. All cows must be BCS 4.5 to 7 (1=emaciated; 9=obese) and a muscle score now described as U.S. Feeder Calf muscle score of 1 to 2.5 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Breed of service sire must be known. All bred cows will be guaranteed pregnant on sale day. If a cow sold as pregnant is proven open by a veterinarian within 30 days of the sale, the consignor will replace the cow or refund the sale price of the cow and take possession of the cow. A veterinarian will be available at the sale for pregnancy examination Vaccinated for IBR, BVD, PI3, 7-way clostridial, and 5-way leptospirosis & vibriosis and Hardjo Bovis within 60 days and no less than 14 days of the sale. All cows that have been receiving annual vaccinations prior to the year of the sale must have received a booster within 365 days of the sale. All cows that have not been receiving annual vaccinations prior to the year of the sale must receive the vaccinations and required boosters within 60 days and not less than 14 days prior to the sale. No cows judged to be EXCESSIVELY NERVOUS OR AGGRESSIVE will be accepted. Spring calving cows must be due to calve on veterinarian’s call by May 1 of the year of the sale. Bull Requirements Only registered bulls from 12 to 24 months of age will be accepted. Growth requirements Adjusted 205 day weaning weight 600 pounds Adjusted 205 day weaning weight w/creep 650 pounds Adjusted yearling weight 1100 pounds All bulls must be frame score 5.0 to 7.0 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Bulls must meet a muscle score described as U.S. Feeder Calf muscle score of 1 as determined by the sale evaluation committee. Bulls must be deemed to be structurally correct by the sale evaluation committee. Bulls must be inspected on the farm for soundness and suitability. Bulls must also pass the anatomical examination components of a breeding soundness exam by a veterinarian. Bull not passing anatomical and soundness exams will not sell. Minimal scrotal circumference Bull age in months: 12-14 15-17 18+ Minimum circumference (cm) 32 33 34 Vaccinated for IBR, BVD, PI3, 7-way clostridial, and 5-way leptospirosis and vibriosis within 60 days and no less than 14 days of the sale.
