Hurricane Preparedness Plan In Process at Valley Regional Medical Center
Brownsville, Texas Date—HCA affiliated Valley Regional Medical Center is implementing the
hospital’s hurricane plan to prepare for future hurricane events. The plan includes preparing for
supplies, operational necessities, staffing, and communication necessary to weather the storm.
The following information is being provided for the safety, well being and security of the
community as this is our top priority.
VALLEY REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER IS NOT A SHELTER.
Please call <Name of your county’s resource line for hurricane information (e.g. Red Cross,
Hurricane Hotline, etc.)> at <phone number including area code> for shelter information. <List
any known shelters that will be open during the hurricane by saying “The following is a list of
area shelters:” If no shelters are known to you, do not include the list, simply list the phone
number above for information><Shelter information will not be known until an actual hurricane
warning is issued or the track of a hurricane develops. Once a hurricane warning is issued, your
county emergency management as well as the Red Cross will begin listing shelters. Note that it
is important to list recommendations listed by your emergency management and Red Cross
that those who are asked to evacuate do so and take refuge in shelters in counties not under
evacuation orders.

After a HURRICANE WARNING is issued by the National Hurricane Center:
 Valley Regional Medical Center will accept emergency patients only.
 Visitors will not be allowed to enter the hospital until the hurricane warning is lifted.
 Elective Procedures will be determined. Please call (956) 350-7200 to verify schedule.

Pregnant women who are registered at Valley Regional Medical Center and are at least
36 weeks pregnant or four weeks from due date, or considered high risk must consult
with their physician before coming to the hospital. Please arrive to the hospital four
hours prior to the predicted hurricane landfall if the physician determines it is
necessary. Valley Regional Medical Center will accommodate significant others only.
Pre-registered pregnant women at Valley Regional Medical Center must bring
registration information and the following items for themselves and guest:
o Medications
o Personal hygiene items (toothpaste, toothbrush, soap, shampoo, deodorant)
o Cellular phone
o Bottled Water (3 gallons per person)
o Change of clothing
o Non-perishable food and snacks
o Flashlight and batteries
o Downtime activities (books, cards, games, etc)
In the event an evacuation of Valley Regional Medical Center is considered necessary, a
media advisory will be issued.
