6th Grade Wilderness Survival Guide
Student handout


Students will be creating a one to two page report. Included in
the report will be information on how to survive or what to do if
the event occurs. Students are free to be creative- include
pictures, use different size fonts and different fonts.
 The project will be done on the computer.
 Conventions will be graded. (spelling, punctuation,
capitalization, grammar)
 Correctness of information will be very important.
 Work time in class will be given.
When we have finished the project, each page will be included in a class
Wilderness Survival Guide.
Rubric
Each person’s individual part will be graded on information and conventions. (15
pts.)

Information is accurate and in your own words.
5 or more facts = 10 points
4 facts = 8 points
3 facts = 6 points
2 facts = 4 points
1 fact = 2 points
For each piece of information that is not correct, 2 points will be deducted from this
category.

Conventions (spelling, punctuation, capitalization, correct grammar)
No errors = 5 points
1 error = 4 points
2 errors = 3 points
3 errors = 2 points
4 or more errors = 1 point
Group part of the project will be graded on creativity and
participation/cooperation. (30 pts.)

Creativity (use of pictures, fonts) & Neatness
Typed with 2 or more pictures = 10 points
Typed with 1 picture = 8 points
Typed with no pictures = 6 points
Not typed with 2 or more pictures = 8 points
Not typed with 1 picture = 6 points
Not typed; without pictures = 4 points

Participation and cooperation
4 days at 5 pts each day = 20 pts.
Each student will receive 2 grades, one individual and one group.
