INTERNATIONAL GATHERING 2014
The detailed programme and costs for the IMMS UK (Founder) Branch’s International Gathering, to be held
in London from Wednesday 4th to Saturday 7th June 2014 are now available. The programme will provide
the opportunity to witness the splendour of some of the United Kingdom’s ceremonial heritage and for
members from the International Society to meet and to join together to pursue our mutual enjoyment of
military bands and their music.
2014 sees the 350th anniversary of the formation of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and the occasion will be
marked by Beating Retreat on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4 th June. Our programme for the Gathering will
include attendance at this special event, followed by a day at the home of British Army Music, The Royal
Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. There is time programmed for members to organise their own
activities during the Friday. On the final day, we shall have seats again at Horse Guards Parade, for The
Colonel's Review of the Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping The Colour).
The programme for the four days is as follows:
Wednesday 4th June. Afternoon - arrival and welcome reception.
Evening - Massed Bands of Her Majesty's Royal Marines Beating
Retreat on Horse Guards Parade. The Royal Marines will be joined
by the Band of the United States Marine Corps and the Band of the
Royal Netherlands Marine Corps
Thursday 5th June.
All-day visit to The Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall,
Twickenham, with speakers, a tour of the Museum and an opportunity
to attend a full band training session. Evening free.
Friday 6th June.
Day free, for members to plan their own activities, which could
include visits to the ceremony of Guard Mounting (Changing the
Guard) at Buckingham Palace or Windsor Castle, the Guards
Museum, the Guards Chapel, etc.

Saturday 7th June.
Morning – The Colonel's Review of The Queen’s Birthday Parade,
with the Mounted Band of the Household Cavalry and the Massed
Bands of the Guards Division. The Colour to be Trooped will be that
of Nijmegen Company, Grenadier Guards; the King’s Troop, Royal
Horse Artillery will also be on parade.
Evening – Farewell dinner at Garrison Sergeants' Mess, London
District, Wellington Barracks.
The cost for the four-day Gathering is £105.00 (British Pounds Sterling).
Included:
Reception drink on arrival.
Ticket to Royal Marines Beating Retreat.
Coach transport from Central London to Kneller Hall, Twickenham and return.
Lunch and afternoon refreshments at Kneller Hall.
Ticket for The Colonel's Review.
Evening dinner on Saturday.
*Note:
On the evening of Friday 6 th June, the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in France, a concert will be
presented at one of the country's premier venues – London’s Royal Albert Hall. 'Friday Night is Music Night'
will feature the London Symphony Orchestra, musicians from the three Services and other guest musicians
from around the world. The concert will be broadcast by BBC Radio 2. Details of this event are, as yet,
unconfirmed, but it is likely that tickets will cost a minimum of £42.00. Whilst the concert will not form part of
the programme for the Gathering, it may be of interest to members attending the Gathering and further
details will be circulated, when available, to members who book places on the Gathering.
