Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences
Headquartered in Beijing, GUCAS was founded in 1978 as the first graduate school in China. Backed
by more than one hundred institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences all across China, GUCAS
offers the most comprehensive programs in the fields of science and engineering, which cover graduate
degrees in 26 primary academic disciplines, including Master degree in 130 secondary disciplines,
Doctoral degree in 114 secondary disciplines, and 2 professional disciplines. With over 4,500
professors and research fellows and over 300 members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and/or the
Chinese Academy of Engineering, GUCAS has the strongest team of pioneering scientists in China
with recognition both at home and abroad and un-rivaled advantages in the fields of mathematics,
physics, chemistry, astronomy, geology, biology, mechanics, material science, energy science,
electronic information, automation, computer science and technology, and biological engineering.
GUCAS students are able to access numerous well-funded research projects at the cutting edge of
world science undertaken at the various CAS laboratories. Among the laboratories there are 3 national
mega-laboratories, 54 national key laboratories, 70 CAS key laboratories and 30 R&D Centers for
engineering, and many of them with state-of-the-art research facilities. Outside science and engineering,
students of GUCAS can also gain good exposure in the fields of management and humanity to better
prepare themselves for the leadership positions of tomorrow. Foreign students interested in studying at
