The Rob Landes Trio salutes the masterful Academy Award-winning American lyricist, John Mercer, Sunday, March 23rd at 4pm at Galveston's Grand 1894 Opera House. Incredible Mercer songs such as "Moon River", "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe", " Days of Wine and Roses", and many more will be performed by native Houstonian Rob Landes. Presented in part by Mitchell Historic Properties, you won't want to miss this afternoon of delightful entertainment! Landes began studying the piano at the age of three and debuted his talents on the Art Linkletter House Party at the age of four. Receiving great applause from Linkletter and kudos from Tommy Dorsey, Landes was on his way to becoming a world-renowned pianist, organist, conductor, and published composer. The Rob Landes Trio is well known for performances at Jones Hall, The Wortham Theatre, The Tower Theatre, The Houston Jazz Festival, and of course... The Grand 1894 Opera House. He traveled many years with Marilyn Maye as her pianist/conductor and conducted the Count Basie Orchestra. Traveling the world, Landes has performed in Canada, Norway and many parts of Europe. He has been the organist at St. Philip Presbyterian Church in Houston, associated with the St. Paul's United Methodist Church (also in Houston) as assistant organist, and has accompanied church members to England twice where his choral and organ music has been performed at Westminster Abbey.
