Dear Parents
I must apologise for not sending a newsletter home on Friday but the unusual weather on
Thursday did something to all Gateshead Council computers. I couldn’t even send a text. I
think in comparison to some schools and homes the lack of computers was very minor.
Class Photos
Your child has recently had a class photo taken. They are really good and mark a very
special event as they were taken on our Jubilee Day. Forms have been sent home but if
you would like to view them properly they are on display in the main school office. The
year 6 had a special leaver’s photograph with the whole year group. If you would like to
purchase a photo, forms and payment need to be returned by Wednesday 4th July, orders
after that date will have to be made direct to Tempest.
Uniform
School Uniform still needs to be worn until the end of this term. If there is a problem
with shoes, please can you let me know? Accessories to uniform really should not be worn
i.e. earrings, jewellery, nail varnish, make up etc. Thank you.
Year 1
Please can all year 1 children bring a plain white t-shirt to school by Thursday. We will be
printing the Olympic logo on them ready for Sports Day. Please clearly label your child’s tshirt.
On Thursday 5th July Year 1 are having a science day all about sound and hearing. Please
can you child bring a toy or object that makes a noise to school on that day. We will also
be making our own instruments – as homework this week can all children think about what
instrument they want to make. Please collect together resources for this too and bring to
school ready for Thursday.
Till the end of term Year 1 will not bring spellings home. The children will be tested on
random words linked to the sounds they learn in Read Write Inc.
Please send in consent forms for the Seven Stories visit by Monday 9th July.
Sports Day Friday 13th July
As you know our Sports Day is taking place at Whickham School astro turf, weather
permitting. We will walk up straight after registration and will return for the end of the
day. Children from Years 1 -6 are to come to school in their PE kit with track suit bottoms
and a waterproof coat. All children require a packed lunch that day, even if the event is
cancelled due to bad weather as no meals will be ordered. If your child is entitled to free
school meals and you would like a lunch supplied, please let the office know by Monday 9th
July.
Parents are welcome to come for the morning/and or afternoon but Whickham School have
requested that Front Street parents stay within the vicinity of the astro turf.
Nursery and Reception Sports Day are as follows:
AM Nursery and Class 1 Tuesday 10th July at 9.15am
PM Nursery and Class 2 Tuesday 10th July at 1pm
Parents are welcome to come and watch us on the all weather area next to the canteen.
After School Clubs
Gymnastics finishes on Thursday 5 July and recommences on Thursday 13th September.
If anyone would like to put their names on the waiting list for gym please give your name to
the office to pass on to the coaches.
All other clubs finish the week beginning 9th July.
For the Autumn Term Football/Multiskills will run on Tuesdays for Year 3 & 4 and
Zumbatonic on Wednesday nights, Year 3 – 6 for the first half term and Years 1 & 2 for
the second half term (6 weeks each). We are also planning a Cookery and First Aid club
and details will follow shortly. Film club details will be sent to Year 4 in the Autumn term.
Places are limited for all clubs and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If
your child would like to attend any of the clubs please return the slip and payment to
school by Friday 13th July. All clubs will start week commencing 10th September until
week beginning 10 December.

Friends of Front Street
Programmes for the Whickham Community Festival, 7th July are now on sale at £1 each
and for every one we sell we get 50p. We will be selling them in the yard this week, or your
child could buy one from school. If you deliver your programme to the library before 3pm
on the 7th July you will be entered into a prize draw.
We are holding a raffle at the Whickham Festival and whilst we already have some prizes,
any extra donations would be greatly appreciated. . Thanks again for your ongoing support.
Reminders
School is closed for an Occasional Day on Friday 6th July.
Please ensure all money owed for dinners, music etc is paid by Wednesday 18 th July at the
latest to enable the office staff to bank it all before the end of term.
Once again can I please ask that all money is in a clearly labelled purse/envelope, no loose
money should be sent into school.
We have had a delivery of new water bottles; they are now £1.50 each, available at the
office.
