Humanities Curriculum Area Humanities is a large and vibrant curriculum area. We currently offer nine subjects; Geography, Government & Politics, Citizenship, World Development, Philosophy, History, Health & Social Care (BTEC – First, and National Certificate), Psychology and Sociology. In September 2009 we introduced SHD at Level 2 and 3 and the Foundation Learning Tier. All subjects are popular and students are enthusiastic and willing to engage with the contemporary issues raised. The students we attract are drawn from a diverse range of socio-economic, educational and cultural backgrounds. As a direct result of this, teaching within Humanities is exciting, lively, sometimes challenging, but ultimately hugely rewarding. Teaching in the area is of a very high standard and observed lessons tend to be graded as either ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’. Relationships between staff and students are excellent and a purposeful and supportive learning atmosphere is endemic in all Humanities subjects, at all levels. ICT facilities at William Morris Sixth Form are excellent and the Humanities Curriculum Area has access to a dedicated ICT base equipped with 20 PCs. We also have the use of a set of 20 laptops which ensures that our use of ICT can be flexible and responsive to students’ needs. Interactive Whiteboards are fitted in all Humanities classrooms and used extensively by teachers in the Curriculum Area. The Humanities team is jointly led by Claire Johnston and Mike Whiteside. Overall, there are 13 staff with some of the more experienced staff holding TLRs within the curriculum area. If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to contact the Curriculum Area Leaders who look forward to welcoming interested candidates to the Humanities Curriculum Area.
