2011 The V&A and National Museums Liverpool’s annual competition for people studying arts and crafts part-time You are invited to create a work of art inspired by the National Museums Liverpool venues Sudley House, World Museum and Lady Lever Art Gallery. A panel of curators, educators and artists will judge the entries. Winners will receive a prize and alongside other selected works, be displayed in World Museum. Entry to the competition is free. Inspired by… is supported by NIACE, the National Institute of Adult Continuing Education Competition criteria Participants must be on part-time art and craft courses or members of community art groups Courses may be accredited or non-accredited Entrants must be over the age of 18 People may enter as individuals or groups What may be entered? You may submit any art, craft, multimedia or digital work, video or animation. You may only enter one piece of work. Entries should not be in a medium in which you have a degree level or above qualification in, or in one which represents your main occupation. Please note that we cannot guarantee that we will be able to display large items or items which require complex set-ups or installation. Your entry must have been inspired by Sudley House, World Museum or the Lady Lever Art Gallery and their collections, exhibitions and displays. You can visit the National Museums Liverpool (NML) venues and also use our website or catalogues for ideas. Inspiration can come from several sources, across time and across different arts and crafts disciplines, but it should be traceable. You should create original designs, not make copies of museum pieces. How are entries judged? Entries will be assessed using the following criteria: Evidence of inspiration from the NML collections Technical skill Creativity and innovation Evidence of benefit from adult education and from the Inspired by ... competition Evidence of overcoming barriers related to lack of previous education or art experience, disability, etc. What is submitted? Inspired by…2011 Application Form 1. Your completed application form. 2. One or two photographs of the final piece. Artworks need to be finished by the deadline of the 1st August 2011 but please do not send your piece itself at this time. If selected, artworks will then be delivered to the appropriate venue at a later date. 3. Up to three individual A4 sheets of supporting drawings or photographs detailing the creation of your art work. Please do not send any folders or sketchbooks. 4. A photograph of the object(s) that were the inspiration. Names must be marked on all pieces of work. We are sorry but we are not able to give notification of receipt of applications. Applicants will be informed whether they have been selected by September 2011. Selected artworks will be displayed before the end of 2011 at World Museum. Winning artworks will receive a prize.
