Hi, everyone! As you know, on this date in 1935, the board game “Monopoly” went on sale for the first time, and just this week the iron token was replaced by a cat, since everyone likes cats more than irons, and just about everyone is allergic to irons. Here are the mid-week announcements: Thank You to Our Partners in Education! McCallum Fine Arts parents and supporters! AISD has put together a Citizen Bond Advisory Committee (CBAC) to develop a bond proposal. We found out two weeks ago that the McCallum Fine Arts facility's needs are not included in the current bond proposal, and also that the bones of Henry V were buried under the blacktop adjacent to Koenig. Since then we have mobilized our dance parents and students along with some influential community members to present at the public hearings before the committee. Because of the excellent presentations by our students and parents, our directors' persistent efforts, and the support from these community leaders, we just received news that the AISD administration is scheduling a separate meeting regarding a potential bond project for Fine Arts! By the board's call for such a meeting, it indicates that the AISD board is considering having a separate bond proposal for just Fine Arts Programs, and also that they get along pretty well and don’t mind meeting again. But remember, we are not the only Fine Arts program in the district now, so there will still be much work to get the word out to support McCallum's needs! If we want our Fine Arts students and teachers to have a sufficient facility that meets the AISD Education Specifications, the best way to get funding for such critical needs is to educate the board. Please make every effort to attend and to present. (Note to self: Wear one of the more than thirty blue t-shirts in your drawers.) More than two dozen Lamar parents spoke about their facility needs for their Fine Arts Program at the last public hearing. The McCallum community needs to have a strong presence to make a difference, so let’s aim for ten dozen. From the AISD website: "Members of the community are invited to share their feedback regarding a potential bond project for Fine Arts. One or more Board members may be in attendance." Just a few additional announcements: Cap and Gown Update Girls Basketball Bi-District Game Monday Senior Parents: Mr. McCallum Snack and Drink Donations Needed Need Service Hours? Volunteer at UT Women’s Softball Stadium Cap and Gown Update: The cap and gown at McCallum High School is not changing for the class of 2013. After much discussion, it was determined that McCallum would use the same blue gown as in the last several graduations. The packet was printed with $37.95 as the price for the cap and gown unit, prior to a final determination of which gown was to be used. This will help clear up some of the issues with the cap and gown price: If you order just a cap and gown and tassel unit the price is $34.95 plus $2.88 tax, making the total $37.83. The $11 handling fee will not be charged to any order for a Cap and Gown unit ONLY. The handling charge will be attached if any other items are purchased or if the order is placed online. Any student who overpaid by $3 was offered a refund or an exchange of merchandise for the overpayment. Herff Jones will return on February 14th from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm in the cafeteria. If you need further clarification, please feel free to contact me at 512-589-4389. Girls Basketball Bi-District Game Monday: The girls Varsity Basketball Team placed third in District 25 4A and making the State playoffs. Our Bi-district game is on Monday at 6 p.m. against Leander High School. The game will be played at Concordia University on Hwy. 620. We would love for our McCallum family and friends to come out and support the Lady Knights! Senior Parents: Mr. McCallum Snack and Drink Donations Needed: Senior parents, the seniors will be selling snacks and drinks during intermission at Mr. McCallum on Saturday, February 16. They need your donations of food (chips, candy, snack packs) and drinks (12 oz. cans of soda, and bottled water). You may also give monetary donations toward snack and drink purchases. These may be dropped off in Ms. Mota's classroom in the English hall BEFORE February 16. This fundraiser helps the senior class have a great prom night. Thanks to all who help out with this! Need Service Hours? Volunteer at UT Women’s Softball Stadium: We will be cleaning the UT Women's Softball Stadium this weekend. We are a non- profit organization. We could use some volunteers.
