For a decade: development and production of bioplastics in Willich
Bioplastics specialist celebrates its 10th anniversary
Willich, June – „Remembering the past to imagine the future“ was the
slogan for the celebration attended by employees, customers and
business partners whom all enjoyed an evening together reviewing
the history of the bioplastics specialist and looking ahead into the
future.

What began with only a few employees and a laboratory extruder in
Willich has now become an important company in the bioplastics
industry. With premises encompassing more than 7,000 m², FKuR
produces its bioplastic compounds and serves customers worldwide.
FKuR has recently invested in a new compounding line in order to meet
the growing demand of bioplastics and to strengthen the Willich
location in the long term. It has been successfully put into operation
this year and has increased the production capacity significantly which
has now reached nearly 20,000 tons annually.

shareholders, who are all active in the company, along with nearly 40
employees, all participating in our success. Additionally, our allies who
accompany us as customers, suppliers and many development
partners guarantee for our success" said Dolfen, Managing Director at
FKuR.
Dr. Dolfen used the anniversary celebration as an occasion to
announce the appointment of Carmen Michels as Co-Managing
Director. Taking effect 1 July 2013, she will take joint responsibility
with Dr. Dolfen for the family company, while remaining the director of
the production & technology department.

History of the FKuR Kunststoff GmbH
The roots of FKuR go back to 1992, when it was founded as a research institute under
the name of Forschungsinstitut Kunststoff und Recycling (FKuR). In the late 1990s, the
company then focused on the topic of renewable resources. The continuing
cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Environmental research and
development for sustainable plastics was a logical step in this direction.
In 2003, the FKuR Kunststoff GmbH was founded, dedicated since then to the
commercialization of the developed bioplastics. As a supplier of biodegradable and
biobased plastics, the company demonstrates innovation and supplies diverse plastic
products to various markets.
Today FKuR is one of the leading producers of bioplastic compounds for flexible
packaging solutions and technical products. FKuR’s range of products includes the
product lines Bio-Flex®, Biograde®, Fibrolon®, Terralene® as well as the exclusive
distribution of ‘Green PE’ in Europe.
