Student Housing & Residence Life is seeking a dynamic, motivated and student centered Residence Manager for
appointment as soon as possible.
Obz square is situated on the Main Road, Observatory, close to St. Peters Square shopping mall. This large, selfcatering, modern complex is the latest addition to the UCT residence system. Some of the other features of the
complex include a retail area, a large social space, a computer lab, a laundry; several smaller meeting and group
study rooms, as well as an underground parking area.
Requirements include:

A relevant degree/diploma (preferably Hospitality or Facilities Management)

5 years’ relevant practical management experience within in the hospitality or facilities industries

Proven history of managing a complex large building/residence

Excellent client, service and people orientation

Good working & theoretical knowledge of current legislation & policies governing Human Resources and Health
& Safety

A valid code 8 driver’s licence

Computer literacy
Knowledge of the residence management system (RMS) would be advantageous.
Responsibilities include:

Managing, planning, co-ordinating and monitoring operations including access control, transport,
maintenance, laundry, IT lab and contractors.

Managing the residence team comprising of facilities and maintenance staff.

Ensuring that Health & Safety requirements are adhered to and act as Health & Safety representative

Overseeing the maintenance of residence records and the use of social space in the residence

Liaising with various stakeholders including students; staff and commercial enterprises

Managing the vacation accommodation process for the residence

Implementing adequate monitoring and control mechanisms to ensure financial integrity within the residence

Preparing operational reports

Implementing and maintaining a management information system
The annual cost of employment, including benefits for 2012, is between R291 599 and R343 018. Salaries for 2013
are currently under review.
