BASIC ELECTRONICS
Basic soldering techniques, component recognition and a guide to various
components are used for. Determination of component sizes of resistors, capacitors etc.
CHEMISTRY
, A few simple organic experiments like the preparation of Salicylic acid with melting point,
testing of carbohydrate unknowns and manufacture of a cleansing cream.
GEOLOGY
Classification techniques for rocks [Igneous, Metamorphic and Sedimentary], some minerals.

WORKSHOP [Plastics]
Purpose to leam skills necessary for cutting, joining, folding plastic materials including high and
low density Polystyrene, Polyethylene, Acrylics [Perspex] and EVA [Ethylene Vinyl Acetate].
WORKSHOP [Wood/metal]
This workshop is aimed at providing experience in the construction of simple laboratory apparatus and
the use of some machinery.
The workshop will use the band Saw, Belt Sander, Drill Press, and Hand tools.
EXCEL [Introduction]
Setting up a spreadsheet.
Useful information [Entering data. Fields, Formula and functions] to be able to create stock sheets and
petty cash registers.
CPR—RED CROSS
An Official 4 hour course by a representative form the Red Cross [Jeff Christie -School nurse
NLSC].
There will be test at the end of the course and successful students will be presented with a certificate
form the Red Cross, which is valid for 12 months.
EDIBLE SCIENCE
A collection of "hands on" practical exercises where you can eat [maybe] the results. Yummy science.
DACTO ROBOTICS
A basic look at what is available in Dacto Lego Robotics, Making of a simple robot and use of touch and
light sensors.
Use of preset programs to make the robots work
PUBLISHER
The use of the Publisher program and the items which you can produce items such as invitations.
Greeting cards etc.
ROCKETS MAKING
Build a rocket and launch it. Curriculum materials presern'ed to enthuse students about
rocket making.
METER REPAIRS
Bring your meters for repair and the Technicians will instruct you on how to repair your meters.
Component recognition resistors & Diodes, meter types.
FOOD AND YOUR HEALTH
What food does a person need to eat to maintain a healthy lifestyle?
Discussion of the five main food groups.
Discussion of modem health issues incl. Diabetes, Cholesterol, High Blood pressure etc.
PLASTIC EMBEDDING
Embedding specimens form the beginning to the end. Includes poring and polishing .

How to respond to selection criteria and prepare and practice for a job interview.
SOLAR COOKERS
Solar energy in everyday life, the making of a solar cooker using basic materials such as cardboard
boxes. These cookers actually work and Sunny lives at home similar cookers etc at his home.
DIGITAL CAMERA & SCANNER
The taking of pictures using a digital camera and the manipulation of the images using computer
software.
Bringing your own camera is highly desirable and also some photographs which can be restored or
enhanced.
EUCALYPT CLASSIFICATION
A look at various eucalypts and by the use of a key they can be classified, looking at buds, flowers and leaves.
TISSUE CULTURE
A short course in the practical applications of plant tissue culture. This will look at setting up of aseptic conditions and disinfestation techniques and observing DNA in the
laboratory
PETRI DISH to POND
A selection of little workshops including slime mould, microbiological cultures, genetics
with seeds, petri film an alternative to agar plates, pond life- overview on collecting and
keeping plants and invertebrates.
PHYSICS GOES LIVE
Physics can be one of the most exciting hands-on challenging experiences you can
encounter. The kinds of activities include flying rockets, human movement etc.
Find out how to source, support and use equipment that brings excitement back to
Physics. If possible bring your own lap top.
BIOTECHNOLOGY
A range of Biotechnology kits are available made by Evdotk e.g.
"How Doctors identify HIV" Immunology based diagnostic tests that are routinely used
to detect various diseases. This is a simulated test to determine if the infection is present.

ANIMAL ETHICS
Workshop to explain Legislation for Animal ethics. Code of Practice, as well as all the
record keeping required including annual reports. A look at typical experimental work
and the practices which must be followed
