Citizenship Reflective Essay Assignment DUE: Thursday, November 8 (Hard copy, at the START of class!!) We covered citizenship in class through a variety of topics. We talked about our responsibilities in terms of what it means to be a good citizen. We debated and analyzed several of our societies larger social issues, and we explored what it means to be stuck in poverty in America and how those of us who are not impoverished can be better citizens to those who are. You are also required to fulfill at least five of your community service hours by the end of the semester for grade in this class. With such a variety of material covered regarding citizenship, this paper should explore what citizenship means to you. What are the foundations for your beliefs about citizenship? How has your concept of what it means to be a good citizen changed since coming to Bridgewater? How has it not changed? What has been your commitment to citizenship in the past? Why did you have these commitments? What would you like to do in the future to improve your citizenship and why? What kind of difference in the world can you make as a college student? The purpose of this essay is to truly reflect, discuss and analyze your commitment to being a good citizen. The questions that I have included in here are mere suggestions. Remember to provide details in your explanations, analyses and synthesis. Make sure you tie the paper together with an introduction, conclusion and transitions. Remember to thoroughly proofread in addition to spell check your paper before you turn it in. Some of you who are having difficulties with specific issues such as organizing your paper, or sentence structure should use the services available at the Writing Center before turning this paper in. Your essay should be 3-4 pages long, typed and double spaced. Make sure you margins are 1 inch, and font size is 12 point. I’d rather your paper go a bit over 3 pages, if you need to rather than have you mess with margins and font size. Use proper citation within the paper when referencing material that was not created within your brain (either MLA or APA style). Include a reference list at the end of the paper when using outside sources.
