Spraying Regulations for Gatton Show Exhibitors from the Cattle Tick Free Area require their own completed waybill and a Permit to Travel issued by their local DPI Stock Inspector to receive a free spraying and have it stamped for the return journey. SPRAYING FACILITIES ARE AVAILABLE ON THE SHOWGROUNDS Apart from general and tick control conditions the following conditions will also apply: JOHNE'S DISEASE – for Bovine Johne’s disease. Cattle must not be introduced unless they comply with the conditions for animals to enter Queensland: 1. They are from a non-restricted herd in a Johne’s Disease protected or free zone (Queensland is a protected zone); or 2. They are from a Check Tested Negative herd or a MAP Monitored Negative 1 (MN1) or better herd in a Control Zone or a MAP MN1 or better herd in a Residual Zone ENZOOITIC BOVINE LEUCOSIS (EBL) accompany application for entry Herds must be Accredited or Certified Free. A current E.B.L. Certificate must DAIRY CATTLE FROM AND RETURNING TO NEW SOUTH WALES: The requirement to seal vehicles carrying all classes of livestock has been waived. Cattle must travel direct to the Showgrounds without unloading enroute. Exhibitors should be aware that NSW/Queensland Border Crossings at Tweed Heads and Mt Lindesay no longer operate 24 hours. They now operate from 5.00am to 9.00pm. Exhibitors should make prior arrangements with the respective Border Crossing before commencing their journey. Arrangements for the return journey are the responsibility of the exhibitor. OPEN BREEDS (For the following breeds) Jerseys, Illawarra, Guernseys, Ayrshires, Holstein Friesian, Brown Swiss ALL STUD EXHIBITORS PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING ENTRY CONDITIONS: 1. No Stud Cattle will be allowed entry to the Gatton Showgrounds unless accompanied by a fully completed waybill and return permit if required. 2. All Cattle must comply with current NLIS Regulations and will be read on the showgrounds before judging. 3. Please have Waybill available when cattle are to be read. THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO AS GATTON SHOW GROUNDS ARE D.P.I. APPROVED GROUNDS. General Rules and Regulations – Dairy Section + All stock must be registered in a Breed Herd Book. Registration papers must be available for inspection. + A tattoo inspection of animals will be carried out prior to judging. + Age of all cattle to be from 1st June (refer attached Age cut-offs). + Name of sire, dam, also date of birth and tattoo or equivalent to be stated on entry form. + All stock must be free from ticks. + Bulls 9 months and over must be fitted with a nose ring. + Bulls one year and over must be handled by rod or two (2) leaders. + Milk disposal will be available on the grounds by an approved means at the direction of the Stewards. + Bedding provided will be shavings and exhibitors may provide their own top up bedding. + All stock will be shown subject to the DAIRY CATTLE CODE OF ETHICS cited below. + Exhibitors wishing to be stalled together should indicate this on their entry forms, this will however not guarantee being stalled together. + All electrical cords and appliances MUST be tested and tagged before bringing onto the grounds. + A limited number of camping sites will be available for accommodation purposes. Booking of sites will be required to be made with Applications for entry. Allocation will be on a first come first served basis. NO ALLOCATION will be available if not booked. SPECIAL CONDITIONS + All cattle entered in group classes must be the property of the exhibitor and entered in the General Classes. + Maternally Related pair is to consist of two daughters or two grand-daughters or one daughter and one grand-daughter of the one dam or dam and daughter, any age. Both animals must be entered in the General Classes. They need not be specified when making entry for this class. To be judged as a pen. PRODUCTION AWARDS + Open to all cows and heifers exhibited in nominated classes (refer below) for the individual breeds which are herd recorded and have been awarded a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th place in a nominated class for individual animals judged on type alone. Eligible cows and heifers will be judged on the amount of Fat plus Protein produced in the first 305 days from calving (or upon ceasing to lactate, if fewer than 305 days from calving), provided that the lactation period of 305days or fewer is completed between 23 June 2011 and 22 June 2012. The placed animal with the highest production will be awarded the production award in each class. Cows must have at least 5 tests (farmers own sampling will be accepted) evenly spaced over the entire lactation, with 2 samplings in each 24hour test and an average of 3.3% mass/volume fat or 3.0% mass/volume protein is reached. Lactation Certificates must be from a Herd Recorder Service and show the test dates for the nominated lactation and must be submitted along with your entry forms. Late Certificates WILL NOT be accepted and the animal WILL NOT be included for consideration for a production award. + Type and Production Classes: eligible animals for this class in each breed will only be the animal that receives the production award in the nominated classes. In the Type and Production Class in each breed the animals will be judged for type ONLY. + Nominated Classes for the Type and Production Class in each breed will be: Heifer 2 years and under 3 years, dry Heifer 2 ½ years and under 3 years, in milk Cow 3 years and under 5 years, dry Cow 5 years and over, dry Cow 3 years and under 4 years , in milk Cow 4 years and under 5 years, in milk Cow 5 years and under 6 years, in milk Cow 6 years and under 7 years, in milk Cow 7 years and over, in milk DAIRY CATTLE CODE OF ETHICS The showing of registered cattle is an important part of the promotion and development of their respective breeds and it plays an important role in stimulating and sustaining interest in breeding registered cattle. The Gatton Show Society believes it is in the best interest of the breeders of registered cattle to maintain a reputation of integrity and to present a professional and progressive image in the show ring. The Gatton Show Society further believes that cattle presented in the show ring should be presented in a natural, (normal appearance), condition. The Gatton Show Society recognises certain practices within the processes of showing cattle which are not acceptable. THE FOLLOWING PRACTICES OR PROCEDURES ARE CONSIDERED UNACCEPTABLE AND ARE DEFINED AS BEING FRAUDULENT AND / OR UNETHICAL IN THE SHOWING OF REGISTERED CATTLE. 1. Misrepresentation of the status of the animal in relation to the class in which it is shown. 2. Treating of animals internally or externally, with any irritant, counter-irritant or other substance used to artificially change the conformation or appearance of an animal for show is considered unethical, inhumane, and is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to: a) Treating the animal, particularly the udder, internally or externally, with a substance to artificially improve conformation. b) Setting the teats or manipulating a teat to alter its normal position such as to unnaturally hold it plumb or to alter its length. c) Surgery or insertion of foreign matter under the skin, performed to change the natural contour of appearance of the animal’s body. d) Use of artificial hair except for false switches. e) The use of tranquilizers, sedatives, or depressants which alter the physical or physiological state of the animal is illegal. Exceptions to this rule would be a licensed, certified veterinarian’s treatment for a recognized disease or injury. Show management reserves the right to require animal health certificates. f) The hygienic sealing of teats to prevent infections will be permitted ONLY under Veterinary supervision. 3. Criticising or interfering with the judge, show management or other exhibitors and any other behaviour considered unsportsmanlike while within the show ring or other conduct considered detrimental to the breed or show. 4. Exhibitors are expected to care for and groom their animals while at the show. (Individual consideration will be given in extenuating circumstances.) 5. Challenging, threatening or interfering with an ethics or disciplinary committee appointed by The Gatton Show Society to monitor the animals on exhibit at the show grounds. Lodgement of a complaint under the DAIRY CATTLE CODE OF ETHICS by an exhibitor must be accompanied by a $50 fee. BY LODGING AN ENTRY FORM FOR THE SHOWING OF DAIRY CATTLE EXHIBITORS ARE DEEMED TO HAVE READ AND ACCEPTED THIS CODE OF ETHICS AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS. ANY BREECH OF THIS CODE WILL BE CONSIDERED AS A SIGNIFICANT VIOLATION AND COULD REQUIRE AN EXHIBITOR APPEARING BEFORE A DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE OF THE GATTON SHOW SOCIETY. DISCIPLINARY COMMITTEE 1. The Disciplinary Committee shall comprise of such members as are appointed by The Gatton Show Society from time to time. 2. The Gatton Show Society shall appoint a member of the Disciplinary Committee as Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. 3. For the purposes of any proceedings of the Disciplinary Committee, The Disciplinary Committee may conduct proceedings notwithstanding that any person who has been given notice fails to attend the proceedings. 4. The Disciplinary Committee shall not be bound by any rules of evidence and shall conduct the proceedings with the minimum of formality and in such a manner as it sees fit. 5. The Disciplinary Committee may require any member or exhibitor to attend at any proceedings of the Disciplinary Committee and to furnish such information and evidence and to produce such documents relevant to the proceedings as to the Disciplinary Committee seems fit. 6. The Disciplinary Committee may, at its discretion, call for and hear expert evidence. 7. No person will be legally represented without the leave of the Disciplinary Committee. 8. The Disciplinary Committee may announce its decision orally or in writing. A decision that is announced orally shall have effect in accordance with its terms. 9. If the opinion of the Disciplinary Committee is not unanimous, the decision of the majority shall prevail. If the Disciplinary Committee are equally divided on any question concerning the guilt or innocence of a person, the question shall be resolved in that person’s favour. 10. If the Disciplinary Committee considers that there has been a breach of the Code of Ethics, it may impose such a penalty as it considers to be appropriate, including without limitation: (a) a reprimand; (b) a monetary fine (payable at such time/s as the Disciplinary Committee may determine); (c) withdrawal or withholding of any award or ribbon; (d) disqualification in respect of any class; (e) expulsion from the Showground; (f) where the person concerned is a member, a suspension or termination of that membership; (g) a ban; (h) exclusion; (i) prohibiting a Person from exhibiting or competing at the current Show or at any future Show; (j) a direction that an Exhibit be removed from the Showground; (k) any other mandatory requirement; and (l) any other penalty provided for in other regulations of The Gatton Show Society 11. There shall be no appeal from any decision of the Disciplinary Committee and the Committee’s decision will be final. 12. No person shall have any claim against the Association or against any Committee, member, employee or agent of the Association in respect of any act, matter or thing done in good faith during or in connection with the proceedings before the Disciplinary Committee. One (1) Judge ONLY will preside over Supreme Classes - Champions ONLY will be paraded and judged for Supreme Classes - Pen of 3 Cows and Heifers will be the winning pen from the individual breed class DAIRY CATTLE YOUNG JUDGES and PARADERS COMPETITIONS Gatton Show YOUNG JUDGES and PARADERS competition will be held at the completion of the SUPREME Classes judging on the Saturday 21st July. This will be followed by the West Moreton and Brisbane Valley Finals for both these competitions. Entry is open to competitors over 15 and under 25 years of age as of the 1 st May 2012. Winners are then eligible to compete at the State Finals at the RNA. Those wishing to enter can do so on the Saturday 21st July before 10.00am. Entry forms and rules will be available from the Chief Steward on the Friday or the Saturday morning of the show. ***CHANGES IN THE 2012 SCHEDULE*** - - All cattle MUST be on the grounds NO LATER than 7pm Thursday 19th July 2012 Ayrshire, Guernsey, Illawarra and Jersey judging to commence 9.00 a.m. SHARP. Brown Swiss and Holstein judging to commence 11.00am (subject to change) Exhibitors from the Cattle Tick Free Area require their own completed waybill and a Permit to Travel issued by their local DPI Stock Inspector to receive a free spraying and have it stamped for the return journey. Bedding fee has increased to $15 per animal due to substantial rises in the cost and availability of shavings A tattoo inspection of animals will be carried out prior to judging. A limited number of camping sites will be available for accommodation purposes. Booking of sites will be required to be made with Applications for entry. Allocation will be on a first come first served basis. NO ALLOCATION will be available if not booked. Sites will be in the area beyond the beef cattle bounded by Woodlands Road and Yates Street in the area previously used for truck parking inside the grounds. Introduction of Supreme Pen of 3 Heifers Grand Parade is now at 12:30pm on Saturday with departure following that.
