8 PASS COURSE IN SALESMANSHIP
Eight Plymouth members of the Devon sub-area staff of the South
Western Electricity Board have successfully completed the salesmanship
training course conducted by the British Electrical Development
Association and have been awarded the BEDA domestic electricity
salesmanship certificate.
They are Messrs D S Bennett, F B Jenkins, T H Pannell, D W H Simpson, E
M Gunn, R A Dewar, H L Watkins and W A Wren. Mr Bennett passed with
distinction and Messers Jenkins, Pannell and Simpson with credit.

WEDDING COOK-TREVAN AT PLYMOUTH
Miss Barbara Daisy Trevan, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs S H Trevan of 19
Brancker-road, Peverell, was presented with two horseshoes after her
marriage at the Roman Catholic Cathedral, Plymouth, yesterday.
The Bridegroom was Mr H G H Cook, eldest son of Mr and Mrs G A Cook of
Durnsford Lodge, Somerset Place, Stoke, Devonport.
Nuptial Mass was celebrated by Rev C I Foley, Mr F Cook, bridegroom’s
brother, was best man, and ushers were Messrs R Mason and J Archer. Mr
A Doyle was at the organ.
Given away by her father, the bride wore ivory satin cut on princess lines
with train, and embroidered veil held in place by a coronet of orange
blossom, she carried Madonna lilies.
Attendants were Misses A W Trevan (bride’s sister) P Haimes
(bridegroom’s cousin) J Lucas (bride’s cousin) M Cook (bridegroom’s
sister) M Lusmore (bride’s friend) and Master A Cook (bridegroom’s
brother). The girls wore Marina green georgette over taffeta, the two
seniors wearing Dolly Vardon hats and carrying tulips and lilac. The
younger attendants wore poke bonnets and carried baskets of flowers.
The bride and bridegroom left for Lynton and Lynmouth, the bride wearing
a blue coat cut on princess lines, trimmed with grey squirrel, and hat to
match.

GIRL PILLION RIDER HURT
A 16-year-old girl pillion passenger on a motor cycle was taken to Battle
Hospital, Reading, with head injuries after an accident with a car at the
junction of Tilehurst Road and Cranbury Road, Reading on Monday night.
She was Miss Patricia Brown of 4 Severn Way Tilehurst. The motor cycle
was being driven by Mr Graham Joel (20) of 161 The Meadway, Tilehurst.
The car was being driven by Mr H F Skidmore, of 324 Tilehurst Road,
Reading. Mr Skidmore, a former officer in the St John Ambulance Brigade,
administered first aid on the spot.
On Wednesday, Patricia’s condition was fair.

McALLISTER, LILY MARY ALICE
Aged 93 years, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Mount Gould
Hospital on May 8th.
Re-united with loving husband ‘Mac’ (Reginald George).
Loving mother to Stuart – Sadly missed.

Putting others first – so true,
Now the good Lord cares for you’.
A Service to celebrate her long life will be held at Emmanuel Church,
Mannamead Road, Plymouth at 1pm on Wednesday 17th May. Flowers, or

bride, Miss Maria Anne Haimes Cook, of 74, Alma Road, Plymouth – who
was vice-chairman – leaving the Church of Christ the King, after today’s
wedding. The bride was attended by Miss Anna Veronica Haimes Cook,
Miss Janet Dobinson (bridegroom’s step-sister) and three-year-old Ruth
Cocking (bridegroom’s half sister). Mr Christopher Haimes Cook was best
man.
