Google Android for Good project Objectives The Google Android for Good Project incorporates a donation of Nexus Android tablets to the Moi University School of Medicine (MUSOM) from Google International. These tablets are meant for use by students and faculty at MUSOM and whose main aim is improve the quality of Medical Education. In order to achieve the above, it was determined that it was necessary to develop core medical content that is both relevant and ideal to our setting. I was tasked with the responsibility of leading the team to explore viable options of how to develop the content. I worked under the larger team of the Medical School lead by the Dean of the School of Medicine. My Supervisors were Drs. Martin Were and Jemima Kamano. I worked with three medical students on this assignment. Google medical applications - We had a list of medical applications available on google play store which we installed to a few of the Android devices and determined their importance and use among the medical school fraternity. - From this initial list, we have a list of medical applications which we think are useful and have recommended to be installed into the devices for use by the Medical School fraternity. Medical content development - At the start of this process, we as a team came up with a list of priority topics that would guide in the content development. The list is attached. - In addition, we have a draft template that shall be used for all the topics that shall be developed. - We have developed content for 25 topics from the list and are in the process of developing strategies to develop more content with a shorter turn-around time. Community build around medical content with constant input from members - I have served as a coordinating lead to build the community that will contribute and evaluate the emerging community-owned and community-developed medical education content. - We have involved the Student leadership of the MUSOM and the medical trainees are eager to receive and use the Android devices and the associated core medical content developed and the recommended applications. - The medical trainees are looking forward to receiving the tablets and have assured us that they will give continuous feedback and some of them will be involved directly in the updating of the core medical content so far developed. Meetings held with relevant leadership on content development - I have also taken a lead on interacting with the leadership of the medical school and of various projects to update them on progress with the content development. - As a result of one of the meetings, the Dean of the School of Medicine shall introduced the Google for Good project to the Moi University School of Medicine Board in early August and requested for the support, participation and contribution by the faculty of the various departments to the Google for Good project.
