Genealogy Project Information & Rubric

All research and supporting documents should be kept in a report folder with pockets. The report documents should be bound in the
center (3-hole binding section)
Project explanation
checklist
Research at least one family line beginning with yourself to at
least a great grand parent. Your research should contain the
following information:
 Full Name,
 Date and place of Birth,
 Date and place of Marriage (if applicable),
 Date and place of Death (if applicable),
 location where the person resided for the majority of
his/her life (or you may list multiple locations.
 Other useful information to include would be jobs,
education, names of children etc.
 You will need to include your source information
(personal interview, family bible, census records,
marriage recs, published book, cemetery records etc.
Sources must be cited in MLA format or be
photocopied.
Extra credit will be given for each generation YOU
personally research past the generation of your great
grandparent
You will need to research the place of residence of your farthest
back ancestor. You will need to write a brief description of
the place (what it looks like, attributes, and a brief history –
founding date etc)
You are required to interview at least one family member and
document a story from his/her childhood. (appx 1-2 pages)
You are to select a family member past your parents’
generation and write a fictional short story that is historically
accurate (appx 1-2pages)
If you are able to reach an ancestor who immigrated to the
US, you will receive extra credit. You will need to include a
½ page notation on why they came to the US or based on
history why you believe they came to the US
Format: All documents contained in a report binder with
prongs and pockets. Supporting documents in pockets,
reports/stories in prong section in center. All stories/reports
need to be typed (research notes may be handwritten.) Sources
