Little Miss African American
Dear Little Miss African American Contestant:
Welcome and congratulations, you have been selected to be a contestant in
the Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant!! You are one of a select group
of young girls with the unique opportunity to participate in this rewarding program.
The Little Miss African American Scholarship Pageant promises to be a very
memorable and wonderful learning experience. Contestants will learn about great
cultural leaders, receive instructions on poise, communication and presentation skills.
The program will provide contestants the opportunity to express themselves through
extemporaneous speaking and participate in a fun-filled production number. To help
the young girls through this program, we will have guest speakers that are positive
role models and celebrities that will offer their support. We know that our special
guests will not only impress but encourage the contestants to hold on tight and to
always wear their Confidence, Awareness, and Pride (CAP).
We need to learn to dream, have hope and expectations so that all children have the
most positive opportunities for their future. It is important to remember that this is
an educational scholarship pageant and not a beauty pageant or talent show.
Again, congratulations and good luck!! The Little Miss African American Scholarship
Pageant is delighted to have you participate in this prestigious and important affair.

SPECIAL PAGEANT AWARDS
EDUCATIONAL CREATION:
Our fabulous young ladies were asked to write a book report on one influential African American from
either the present, past or future. Some chose to research their favorite entertainer. Others chose prolific
leaders in our history, famous scientists, journalists and well-known inventors. THE EDUCATIONAL
CREATION Award goes to the young lady who exemplified not only a clear understanding of their subject
matter, but to the young lady who brought their researched figure off of the pages and into the hearts of our
judges.
iCREATION TECHNICAL ARTS
The iCreation Award is an infused multi-media perspective inspired by the arts. Our princesses were asked
to use the creative mediums of painting, video, documentary, and computer graphic design elements to
highlight a historical person from our rich African American culture. Linking the past to the present, each
girl was asked to specifically focus on someone whose impact in the past still has a direct effect on us today.
iCREATION VISUAL ARTS
The iCreation Award is an infused multi-media perspective inspired by the arts. Our princesses were asked
to use the creative mediums of drawing, painting, video, sculpting, photography, and sketching to highlight
a historical person from our rich African American culture. Linking the past to the present, each girl was
asked to specifically focus on someone whose impact in the past still has a direct effect on us today.
THE HISTORICAL AWARD
While we celebrated the past 19 years of Little Miss African American, we also asked the girls to celebrate
themselves. Reaching back into their own history, we asked that they choose a place of significance and
document exactly what it means to them. This place could have been the city in which they were born or the
house they grew up in. The Place of Significance Award goes to the young lady who brought that place to
life in our hearts and minds.
PERFORMING ARTS AWARD
In a time when the voices of the young are heard loud and clear we thought it a perfect opportunity to give
our girls the chance to have theirs heard through poetry, dance, essays, acting and songwriting. The Poetry
and Spoken word portion of LMAA created a platform for our ladies to express themselves with the power
of their thoughts and words. We asked them to speak about their experience with LMAA and to tell us about
what their CAP, Confidence, Awareness and Pride- means to them.
