DETAILS OF TEACHING EXPERIENCE.

The undergraduate courses I have taught include, Elements of Psychology,

Psychological Foundations, General Psychology, Social, Cognitive, Comparative,

Sensory, Neuro-Psychology, Experimental, Practical, and Developmental Psychology,

Learning processes and History of Psychology. Psychology for Social Work,

Psychology and Criminology.

The courses I have taught at the M.Sc., M.Phil./Ph.D. levels include, Systems and

Theories, Controversial Issues in Psychology, Psycholinguistics, Advanced Social

Psychology, Applied Social Psychology Psychology for Diplomats(in conjunction with Political Science Dept) and Seminars in Developmental Psychology.

DETAILS OF RESEARCH EXPERIENCE.

My Research experience started early in life as a 21-year-old research assistant to

Prof Alexander Boroffka on a WHO funded research on “The mental Health Aspect of

Birth Control in Sub-Saharan Africa”. This was from 1968 to 1970. Since then I have done personal, collaborative and commissioned research many of which formed the basis of my publications.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

The University is administered through the committee system and I have had the opportunity to gather administrative experience by serving on several Council, Senate,

Faculty and Departmental committees. These include, Development committee,

Central Research committee, Student Welfare, Convocation Ceremonies, Housing,

Guest Houses/Conference Centre, Faculty Research Committee, Admissions,

Accreditation committee and so on.

FUND-ATTRACTION

My fund generating experiences traverse University and non-University activities.

For example, as the Executive Director (Part-time basis) of the National Council for

Population Activities (NCPA), I was able to attract funds from the Family Health

Services (FHS), The Pathfinder Funds, The Futures Group and The Federal Ministry of Health, Lever Brothers Nig. Ltd. among others. In my capacity as the General

Secretary of the Early Child Care, Development & Training Initiative (ECDTI) we attract funds from UNICEF, Federal Ministry of Education, World Bank and SUBEB of Lagos, Ondo, Kwara and Oyo States.

At the level of the University, I have been able to attract funding from the University of Lagos Central Research Committee, the World Bank and the International Society for the Scientific Study of Behaviour and Development (ISSBD). In addition, I attracted funds from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to prosecute certain projects while I was Director of the University of Lagos Centre for

Social Research and Public Policy (CSRP).

I was privileged to assist in the management of the University of Lagos in the following capacities: Head of Psychology Department, Director, Institute of

Consultant to the Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH) committee which drew up and launched the National Population IEC strategy for the 36 States of the Federation. This committee designed and launched the National Population Logo with assistance from the Family Health Services Project (FHS) 1992.

Executive Director, National Council for Population Activities (NCPA) 1991 – 1993.

The NCPA was an indigenous NGO whose mandate included coordinating and providing assistance for the activities of all other NGO’s in the population arena towards the effective implementation of the National Policy on population for development. In my capacity as Director, I functioned and carried out the following activities. a. Published NCPA Quarterly Newsletters as out-reach organs. Each volume focused on activities of other organisations active in the field of population studies and family planning, maternal and child health, sexually transmitted disease and

HIV/AIDS – education. 1991 – 1993. Funding was provided by Family Health

Service (FHS). b. Coordinated a team of Journalists and Health Professionals to publish an

international Press Kit on Family Planning and Population Issues for Journalists. It

contains chapters on; Population and maternal/child health, Population and

Adolescents, Population and Development, Population and Family Planning, among

others. Funding was provided by FHS, 1993. c. Organized Annual Population Lecture Series on “Issues of National Productivity

and Population growth” Lecture given by Late Chief Rufus Giwa, Chairman, Lever

Brothers Plc. for National Council for Population Activities (NCPA) with funds from

FHS 1991.

“The Impact of Population Growth on the Nigerian Environment”. Lecture delivered

by Prince Julius Adelusi – Adeluyi mni, President, Nigerian – American chamber of

commerce, for National Council for Population Activities (NCPA), with funds from

FHS 1992. d. Organized IEC Programmes for Targeted Audience on behalf of NCPA e.g.

Family Life Education Seminar for Leaders of Market Associations in all 15 Local

Government areas of Lagos State, 1991. e. Facilitated the Editorial Board of a popular weekly magazine, the “Newswatch” to

carry a 16-page cover story on “Population Explosion”. This was the result of a

collaborative research between Newswatch Publications and NCPA under my

directorship. July 1991. f. Member, the Population Working Group (PWG).This was an inter-Ministerial

Body drawn from the Federal Ministries of Health and Social Services, Education and

Youth Development, UNFPA, USAID, etc. It was this body that drew up the draft of

the National Population Policy and after the adoption of the Policy by Government,

developed a plan for its Implementation. In addition, this body also reviewed and

approved sectoral workplans and sent them to the research or finance sub-committee of

the National Consultative Group on Population and Development (NCGPD), which

was the highest Policy level in the country for population and Development matters.

1991 – 1993. g. Coordination and Facilitation of Peer Review/Medical Audit. This involved

Family Planning practitioners in Lagos State meeting quarterly to share ideas,

experiences and provide solutions to problems encountered in their practice. This

reduced negligence and sharpened their expertise. 1991 – 1993.

1985 – 1986.

The Association is the parent body of all psychological divisions, groups and societies in the country such as Educational, Clinical, Counseling, Industrial, Sport and so on. As general Secretary, I kept the books of the parent body, received

communication from members, issued notices and generally managed the secretariat. The major goals of the association are to initiate research, develop psychological tests, guide accreditation exercises and award prizes and scholarships to deserving members.

19.

MEMBER, NIGERIA SQUASH RACKETS ASSOCIATION 1984 – 1992

The Association is the sole body charged with the management of squash rackets in the country. It seeks sponsorships from the private sector, organizes competitions at various levels such as women, under –16 etc. The body also organizes training programmes for coaches, referees, markers and is responsible for Nigeria’s participation in sub and continental competitions.

LAGOS 1984 – 1986

One of the most important standing committees of the University Senate, its Terms of reference include: (a) advise Senate and through Senate, Council, on the detailed plans for the future capital development of the University and in particular to prepare the Quinquennial Estimates of expenditure for the Colleges, Faculties and other Units of the University. (b) To consider request and allocate funds from the Central Research Fund, Learned Societies Conference Fund and other similar budgetary appropriations.

As an elected member representing the University Congregation (1984-1988) and also as a full Professor (2000-2012 ), I served in Senate which is the highest academic body within the University. I have also served on several committees of
