Position Title: Outdoor Recreation and Family Program Director
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt

GENERAL FUNCTION: The Outdoor Recreation and Family Program Director is responsible for Family
Programming, Leadership and Teambuilding Programs, Group Programing, Recreational Programs
including: Archery, Boathouse, Climbing Wall, Fitness Center, Nature Center, Tennis, and Waterfront
SUPERVISION:
Directly supervise 8-10 summer staff
Indirectly supervise 40-50 summer staff
KNOW HOW: A B.S. or B.A. in recreation, education and/or related field; or a minimum of 1-3 years of
YMCA and/or similar work experience which includes supervision, budgeting, and program development.
This position requires strong organizational skills including: goal setting, program planning,
implementation, and evaluation; communication skills written and verbal; interpersonal; supervisory
experience; and computer skills. Experience in developing teambuilding/leadership programs for groups
of all ages required. Experience in Challenge Course facilitation required including Challenge Course
Manager Certification or the ability to obtain certification. Lifeguard/Lifeguard Instructor, Swim Instructor,
CPR/AED and First Aid certifications are a plus.
PRINCIPLE ACTIVITIES:
1. Work with the Chief Operating Officer and Program Team in designing and developing a multi-year
program vision.
2. Directly manages the following programs: Family Programming, Leadership and Teambuilding
Programs, Group Programing, Recreational Programs including: Archery, Boathouse, Climbing Wall,
Fitness Center, Nature Center, Tennis, and Waterfront
a. Research, design and implement new activities and programs, keeping apprised of YMCA
standards, and industry standards, society trends.
b. Recruit, supervise, train and evaluate staff and/or volunteers
c. Develop and/or update operational manuals for areas.
d. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer creates and oversees portions of the
Program budget
e. Adhere to Association policies.
f. Maintain equipment and supplies
g. Maintain accurate records.
h. Oversee the following facilities: Archery, Nature Center, Boathouse, Collins/Tennis Center,
Low Ropes Course, Fisher Gymnasium, and the Waterfront.
3. Works with the Marketing Department to provide ensure all group programming needs are met.
a. Designs and develops programs for conferences and groups.
b. Works with Conference Services to provide resources to effectively market and sell
programming, including but not limited to program descriptions, pricing, trade shows etc…
c. Works with Conference Services to develop and manage the Conference Program Budget.
4. Works with the Chief Operating Officer to enhance the off-season weekend program offerings
5. Works with the Marketing Director in Marketing Silver Bay’s Programs including program brochure,
website, and group programming materials.

6. Provides leadership to community outreach programs that focusing on families.
7. Participate as a member of the program team in community events including parades, Healthy Kids
Day, Oktoberfest, Hague Winter Weekend and much more.
8. Acts as “director on duty” and support the needs of other departments.
9. Any other duties as assigned.
10. As a 24-hour operation all staff may be asked to work weekends, evenings or night shifts and/or
holidays in order to serve our members, guests, and program participants.
