Thank you for your interest in the American Translators Association. ATA membership is open to anyone with an interest in
translation and interpreting as a profession or as a scholarly pursuit. All individual applicants are first accepted as Associate or
Student members before gaining eligibility for Active or Corresponding membership.
ATA Membership for Individuals:
Associate Membership
Open to individuals interested in the goals
and objectives of ATA.
 Associate members receive the benefit of listing their
services in the Directory of Translation and Interpreting
Services.
Student Membership
Open to graduate and undergraduate college or university students enrolled
full-time in any program or part-time in a translation- or interpreting-related
program, including foreign language study.



Student members cannot list their services in the Directory of Translation
and Interpreting Services.
Requires proof of current student enrollment (in English).
Membership is limited to 4 years.
ATA Membership for Organizations:
Corporate Membership
Membership is in the name of the corporation, not of an
individual.

Corporate members receive the benefit of listing their
services in the Directory of Language Services Companies.

Employees of Corporate members are not eligible to take
the ATA certification examination unless they are also
individual members.
Institutional Membership
Membership is in the name of the institution, not of an individual.

Institutional members cannot list their services in the Directory
of Language Services Companies.

Employees of Institutional members are not eligible to take the ATA
certification examination unless they are also individual members.
Proof of nonprofit status is required.

ATA Membership for Both:
Joint Individual/Corporate Membership
Joint membership is in the name of both the corporation and of one designated individual. The corporation receives all the benefits of Corporate
membership and the designated individual possesses the same rights and privileges as Associate/Active/Corresponding members. Other nondesignated employees of Joint members are not eligible to take the ATA certification examination unless they are also individual members.
ATA Divisions:
ATA also offers the opportunity to share common interests through membership in ATA divisions at no additional cost. Division s provide a
specialized network through their newsletters, seminars, conferences, and other events. You must be an ATA member to join a division.

The publication cost of The ATA Chronicle magazine for one year ($28) is included in membership dues.
