CONVEYANCING LECTURE CLASS WORKSHOP New Law School Seminar Room 022 Monday 3 February 2014 Purpose of Workshop to be conducted at 6.00pm as part of the lecture time Each weekly lecture student will be assigned to one of four groups. Each group will discuss, for a period of 20 minutes, one of the topics below which will give students opportunities to actively exchange ideas they have developed in prior study in relation to their particular group topics. Each group will have a pre-chosen student facilitator who will present the views of his or her group members to the whole class in a presentation lasting 5 – 7 minutes. The whole class will, after each presentation, discuss the views expressed for 10 – 12 minutes. The lecturer, Bill Henningham, will facilitate each discussion and will have opportunities to share particular insights with the students. The workshop topics include important topics in the Conveyancing Subject. It is intended that by participating in this exercise, students will polish their researching skills and enhance their competence in the subject. Topics Topic 1: “Most work in conveyancing practice is easy work of a routine nature.” Discuss Topic 2: In what circumstances (if any) should a purchaser’s solicitor lodge a caveat to protect his/her client’s equitable interest? Topic 3: “Obtaining extra information from a Council under section 149(5) of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, by a vendor’s solicitor to attach to the contract or by a purchaser’s solicitor after exchange of contracts, is a waste of clients’ money.” Discuss Topic 4: What points would you make in an address to members of NSW Young Lawyers at a CLE seminar on the following topic? “Residential Conveyancing Providing to vendor clients necessary protections and achieving trouble-free transactions.” …ooOoo…
