RE: Proposed curricular changes in the Department of Geological Sciences
Documents are submitted for approval of multiple curricular changes in the Department
of Geological Sciences. The faculty and financial resources to support proposed
curricular changes are in place in the Department of Geological Sciences.
1) Several new courses are proposed (GEOL 7002, GEOL 7007, GEOL 7008,
GEOL 9000, GEOL 9001) and, with one exception (GEOL 7500), these new
courses are required to support changes in the CRM Ph.D. program. The sixth
course, Marine Isotope Geochemistry (GEOL 7500), has been developed to
enhance our students’ understanding of the application of isotope geochemistry to
the study of marine systems.
2) We are also requesting elimination of several courses we will no longer be
teaching. The following courses are currently banked. Please delete them from the
listings for the Department of Geological Sciences.

Regional Geomorphology of the United States (2)
5250, 5251. Stratigraphy (3,0)

3) Finally, besides changes to the catalog copy required by the abovementioned
curricular changes, we also propose 1) minor changes in wording to clear up
potential ambiguity about our degree requirements and 2) changing the name of
the Institute of Coastal and Marine Resources to the Institute for Coastal Science
and Policy.
The documents included are:
