Michael P. Smith Dignity and Compassion Award Purpose and definition To recognize and honor a Registered Radiologic Technologist who shows dignity and compassion towards patients and co-workers, understands individual’s needs, shows empathy and provides support in a way that respects all people equally. Examples of how the individual meets at least three of the following must be provided: Communicates sensitively with patients and their family members Listens carefully Provides emotional support Respects patients’ values, culture, choices and decisions Understands the significance of patients’ families and their communities Displays extraordinary devotion and compassion in caring for patients and families Understands the need for due regard for the feelings, wishes, and rights of others Promotes a sense of mutual respect amongst health care team members Displays honesty, fairness and makes decisions that benefit others To nominate a Radiologic Technologist for the Michael P.
