In fact all of you will want to get to Vet Check in 3 hrs or less if you want to finish on time. This will be a real ride for you and your horse. You have a TOTAL of 7:15 hrs to complete the ride successfully (TOTAL = ride time and hold time = 7:15 hrs). Your finish time is when your horse has a pulse of 60 after crossing the finish line in camp. Bring your horse to a pulse taker when you think the heart rate is 60 or less. If you are in the Top Ten check your time as you may have a CRI in 10” and in ONE hour from your finish time one of the Veterinarians will perform a Best Condition (BC) exam. DO NOT be late! Weigh yourself and all your tack, have the wt. verified and give that number to the Veterinarian’s scribe. ADVICE WARNING Headed to finish: After Rt 94 you have approximately 6 miles to the finish and the first 4 miles of this is a wide forest service road, ample for passing and any speed you choose. However, PLEASE DO NOT RACE, OR do so very carefully after you go under the power line on this trail as the trail becomes single track and heads down to the creek. Even the creek bed is not good for passing so sort your place in the ride BEFORE this point. After the creek bed the trail uses the HIGH road into camp and racing is discouraged along this stretch. If you pass do it on the cliff side and let the front rider stay on the high side, the safe side. Be careful, be courteous, be kind. Trail = BOTTOM LINE = Ride the trail = If you see dirt = trot or canter, when you see rocks set your own pace, get to vet check #1 in 3 hours or less if you want to finish in time.
