DESCRIBE CURRENT, NEW and POTENTIALLY NEW LAND USES: Observe
property and ask landowner about recent or proposed changes in land use since last monitoring report. Take photos
if necessary and mark site map to show area of activity. Describe current uses of all structures and zones with
enough depth to make comparisons in future years.
2.
DESCRIBE MAN-MADE ALTERATIONS: i.e., construction, dredging or filling, new roads
or trails, timber harvesting, clearing of new fields since the easement was last monitored. Describe the activity or
alteration, noting the specific location, extent, purpose and individual responsible (if known). Note any observed
effect on conservation values identified in the easement or baseline report. Mark site map, attach maps,
permit information, photos or illustrations as appropriate.
3.
DESCRIBE NATURAL ALTERATIONS: i.e, flooding, windblown trees, fire, insect
infestation, drought, change in wetland size, stream bank or shoreline erosion; presence and extent of invasive
species (refer to invasive plants handout). Note location, nature, and extent of change since last report, and observe
any effect on conservation values. Mark site map, attach maps, photos, or illustrations as appropriate.
4.
UNIQUE QUALITIES: Plants and/or animals, habitat characteristics, etc., observed or discussed
with landowner. Note location, nature and extent. List observations. Indicate if a plant list or vegetation map exists.
5.
LANDOWNER RELATIONS: Does the landowner have questions or concerns about the
conservation easement? Is there other information the Land Trust can provide? Interested in information on
voluntary land or natural resource management programs?

6.
NEIGHBOR RELATIONS: Ask the landowner about their relationship with neighboring property
owners. Are there issues that might/are affecting conservation values on their easement? Is there potential for
future easements adjoining their property? Are they willing to work with BILT to approach neighbors about
easements?
7.
ANNUAL SUMMARY: What are items that have been ongoing or have recently taken place on the
property that we need to continue to track – for instance: is the property for sale, has the property changed hands,
has BILT been involved on the property with the landowner because of an amendment, an encroachment, a
restoration action, work party, etc.? Summarize these items.
8.
LAND TRUST SIGNS: Note the presence and/or location of any Land Trust identification sign(s).
Make note of any missing or damaged signs. If there is no sign, confirm with the landowner whether or not they
would like to have one.
9.
ITEMS FOR LAND TRUST REVIEW: List your observations, questions or requests from
the landowner that require further Land Trust consideration.

List recommendations relative to conservation easement implementation and stewardship (such as
restoration or enhancement, invasive species removal etc.):
