The comprehension skills covered will be: cause and effect, drawing conclusions and fact/opinion. We will focus on the following writing skills: Letter writing, short sentences with correct punctuation and structure, focus on one topic, organization, and stories with a beginning, middle and end. We will also continue to learn about information writing (main idea & details) and adding interesting facts when writing. In order to make the most of the instructional time in the room, please help your child master this skill at home. This will help to eliminate distractions during teaching time as well as lessen the time it takes us to get ready for recess. Thank you! Math In math we will assess on Unit #8 and begin work in Unit 9. We will focus on: 10’s & 1’s patterns on the number grid, adding/subtracting by 10’s, number grid puzzles, adding/subtracting 2 digit numbers, fractional parts of the whole, comparing fractions, and names for fractions. Science Reading Homework Please continue to read at home with your child. Books and folders should be sent back to school by Friday. Many studies have shown that children who read at home develop a life-long love of reading and learning. Reading at home is statistically linked to successful reading at school. Thank you for helping your child to become a successful reader! Wild About Reading Please return your March reading calendars. April calendars were sent home. Thank you! SAVE THE DATE We will be having an end of the year patriotic program on Friday, May 24th and YOU ARE INVITED! Our program will be @ 1:45. Please plan to join us for this special event! We will begin our FOSS/Science unit- Pebbles, Sand and Silt. The students will investigate rocks as earth materials and natural resources. They will come to know rocks by many names and in a variety of sizes. We will also discuss Spring and the changes in nature (animals, plants…) Notice As the weather gets warmer, many children come to school with sandals. Please be sure your child’s sandals have a back strap. Flip flops are prohibited because of safety concerns. Thank you for your cooperation. Box Tops We will be collecting Box Tops in our classroom this year. This is great additional revenue for our school! Please send any box tops you’ve collected into school with your child.
