Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy related to this particular delivery of the programme. The main aim of the programme is to provide a basis for career development through the sport coaching profession within the sport of Tennis. There is a primary emphasis on developing a critical understanding of sport management, business and administration through the examination of underpinning theories, models, concepts and research skills pertinent to the overall managing of the coaching management process. This programme critically evaluates strategic planning, human resource management, sport marketing and sport finance within Tennis and across the sport industry in the UK and internationally. More specifically the programme promotes application and critical evaluation of vocationally relevant concepts to the work place and the role of a sports coach through a work-based learning approach and experiential professional practice. This programme utilises the state of the art facilities offered at the Lawn Tennis Associations (LTA) offices in Roehampton and associated Information Technology equipment at the LTA to enhance the practice and analytical skills of the tennis coaches engaged with this programme. Students will assess and critique the impact of current sport business models and systems utilised in the development of sport management expertise. Reflective practice is a core feature of the theoretical framework underlining sport coaching as a profession and the programme is designed to offer students the opportunity to engage in reflection linked to Continuous Professional Development activities and a work-based project. Employer engagement is at the heart of all university strategic plans and by adopting a distance delivery approach there is scope for an individual to integrate under graduate study alongside their full time or part-time employment in the LTA. The Academic Recognition for CPD module will include delivery of one day workshops by the academic team to the LTA Tennis coaches engaged with the programme; this will form the Sport Management focus of the new learning and up skilling of the LTA coach workforce. The curriculum reflects academic and professional developments in the sport management field, academic staff expertise and the key knowledge and competencies highlighted and recommended by the professional body (Sports Coach UK) for higher education levels of study at under graduate. The design of the programme reflects market research undertaken by the Department of Sport Development, Management and Coaching which included practitioner involvement in developing and formulating the structure of the programme and the modules of study across the three levels. As detailed in the Framework for Professional Practice Awards in Sport this programme has an applied focus and is guided by key professional competencies outlined in the UK Coaching Certificate which detail the need for sport coaches to engage in development of management and business up skilling. Throughout the programme students are encouraged to apply their theoretical knowledge in practical settings relevant to tennis specifically but also allowing broader application to the wider context of the sport industry as a whole. This focus upon professional skills and vocational practice is in line with the University Mission to promote employability and also to promote additional opportunities for flexible learning structures to up skill the current workforce. The programme teaching team includes four highly qualified sport management/business experts all of which have professional management experience from across the sport industry. All staff are currently engaged with a variety of research/consultancy work at both national and international levels.
