Science Evaluation Questionnaire for Nunavut Schools

There are 28 questions in this questionnaire. Although you are encouraged to answer it on
your own, you can decide to answer it (1) with a few other teachers or (2) as a whole
school staff.
The sentences in this questionnaire all have to do with the teaching of science from the
Inuit perspective. Students in Nunavut are encouraged to learn contemporary science
within the context of Inuit history, values, traditions, beliefs, and, where appropriate,
language (Department of Education, 2005). Students are encouraged to develop their
understanding of both traditional and contemporary science knowledge. Learning of
one and not the other limits the richness of the science learning experience provided
for students in Nunavut schools. Instead science should be a blend of contemporary
and traditional science knowledge built within the context of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit
(IQ).
