How to Apply
• Pre-requisites - The course is aimed at research scientists from academic Institutions, with
a minimum of a degree in a Biological, Mathematical or Computing discipline, as well as
specialists in related fields, from Africa, Asia, South and Central America. The course is an
advanced course intended for candidates familiar with sequence analysis and who need to
extend their competences to genome analysis.
Acceptance will be subject to selection process and preference will be given to research
scientists from the International Network of Institut Pasteur Institutions and to FEBS
members.
• Travel costs: Accepted candidates should be able to pay their roundtrip travel fees to attend
the course (see FEBS YTF grants).
• FEBS YTF grants for FEBS student members
Graduate students and post-docs within five years of obtaining a Ph.D who are FEBS
members can apply for a grant from the FEBS Youth Travel Fund (YTF) to defray a portion
of their expenses. Ten (10) FEBS YTF grants for FEBS student members have been granted
for this course. These will be selected among FEBS member candidates (see selection
criteria).
• Cost : The course is free.
• Accomodation and subsistence: Acceptance to the course includes free accommodation (in
double rooms) breakfast, lunch and dinner from March 18th evening to April 8th morning,
2007.
• Applications
Applicants are requested to complete the Course application form (see below) and to send
a short cv, before December 31, 2006.
• Number of places: There is a maximum number of 20 places available for the course,
among which 4 are reserved for tunisian applicants. We will apply a sex ratio of 50% and a
geographical distribution as wide as possible.
• Course langage: English.
• Conferences and talks access to a wide audience:
Besides the 20 accepted students, the third week conferences and talks (fromMonday April 2
to Friday April 6, 2007, see course Program) are open to interested collegues, particularly (but
not limited to) those from Tunisia. Interested collegues are requested to arrange their
accomodation on their own and to subscribe by filling the Conferences application form
(see below) before February 28, 2007.
• Deadlines:
-Closing date for application is December 31, 2006. Applications will not be accepted
after this date.
-Selected candidates will be informed on January 10, 2007.
-Closing date for subscribing to attend the conferences and talks is February 28, 2007.
Applications will not be accepted after this date. Only subscribed candidates will be
allowed to attend the conferences.
For organisation and management reasons we kindly ask for comprehension and respect for
these constraints.
• Selection Criteria
Twenty (20) candidates will be selected following the criteria:
-Must be graduate student, junior or senior researcher;
-Member of a Research Academic Institution in Africa, Asia, South or Central America;
-Good knowledge in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Sequence analysis, Programming
and Practical Computer skills;
-All candidates must have access to e-mail and Internet;
-All candidates must be fluent in English;
-All candidates must be available full-time for the entire duration of the three-weeks course;
-Priority will be given to candidates whose research activities will immediately benefit from
the course as reflected by motivation and recommendation letters;
-A sex ratio will be applied (50% female and 50% male);
-Able to pay own transport expenses if not granted FEBS YTF;
- Four (4) students are selected according to the previous criteria among the tunisian
applicants.
