It will be updated and amended from time to time in accordance with the changing needs of the University and the requirements of the job. PURPOSE OF ROLE: The overall purpose of the job is to contribute to programme delivery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the Department of Life and Sports Sciences. You will be expected to be able to offer a specialism within the continuum of Biological and Biomedical Sciences, with a particular focus on Physiology and/or Developmental and Comparative Biology. In addition to these more specialised areas, you should also be able to teach across the broad spectrum of topics relevant to mainly Biological Sciences, some involvement with the Biomedical Science programme will also be required. You are expected to engage in research/scholarly activity/consultancy and to contribute to the Department’s and Faculty’s research and enterprise agenda. Teaching, principally to students on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Biology (but also to other subject areas); and participation in the development of new programmes in cognate areas. In addition to teaching the job will involve pastoral care for students, curriculum development, undergraduate and post graduate supervision of research students, and course management in supporting the Biological Science BSc and the Integrated Masters in Biology (M.Biol) Programmes. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: Team Specific: Contributing at a course and cognate subject level in teaching and research including: developing course materials for teaching and learning at undergraduate and potentially postgraduate levels working as part of a team in delivering courses as part of a programme undertaking research and scholarly activity alongside personal development in your subject area providing effective communication of complex ideas in a range of academic situations Main Activities and Duties 1. Lecturing and tutorial/laboratory class supervision in accordance with the guidelines of the accredited programmes. 2. Contributing to course/curriculum development; specifically with respect to enhancement of course learning objectives and assessment demonstrating innovative approaches to teaching and the use of learning resources University of Greenwich 3. Promotion of learning based on up to date research which involves the students in active learning by doing and promotes critical analysis and discussion 4. Pastoral and administrative duties providing students with personal support, academic guidance and advice with special attention given to enhanced employability of the matriculating student body. 5. Support of other staff members through active participation in the overall administration of the programme: reflecting critically on the teaching and delivery of learning outcomes while participating in improvement and quality of the programme. 6. Participating in programme promotion both to potential students and the professional community within the UK and where appropriate internationally thus promoting the profile of the University. 7. Engaging in appropriate original research / scholarly activity in a professional and collegiate manner including supervision of student research. Generic: In addition to general duties as indicated above, it is expected that all staff take on a Faculty role (e.g. year tutor / outreach activities/link tutor etc.).
