University of Massachusetts Lowell School of Health and Environment Department of Nursing Department of Nursing Baccalaureate Program Goals and Expected Outcomes Baccalaureate Program Goals The Baccalaureate program prepares nurse generalists who: Apply professional standards (ANA, 2004) in a variety of settings serving diverse populations; Demonstrate competency in the application of nursing knowledge in practice; and Participate as members of the nursing profession. Baccalaureate Curriculum Objectives The Baccalaureate program prepares nurse generalists who: Develop therapeutic relationships with individuals, families, groups, and communities; Utilize critical thinking and ethical principles in the implementation of standards of practice; Collaborate with clients, families, and health care professionals in the delivery of care; Utilize research findings in practice; Demonstrate the ability to promote health in diverse populations; and Participate in efforts to influence health care policy. Baccalaureate Expected Student Outcomes Graduates of the Baccalaureate Program are prepared to: Practice nursing in any health care setting; Sustain life-long learning; and Contribute to the profession of nursing.
