BCLA COLLEGE FELLOWSHIP FOR SPRING 2016 BCLA COLLEGE FELLOWSHIP FOR Spring 2016 Proposals are now being solicited for the Spring 2016 BCLA College Fellowship for Continuing tenure-line faculty. College Fellowships provide faculty in the Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts with opportunities to complete a substantial research/creative project or to concentrate effort at a critical phase of a research/creative project. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis with priority given to projects nearing completion and with high expectation of publication or at critical phase. Applicants applying under the “critical phase” criteria must provide convincing evidence that without the fellowship, the project would be substantially at risk. A maximum of two College Fellowships are awarded per semester. During the fellowship semester, each College Fellow will teach one four-unit course and be released from all University and Departmental service. Please follow the grant application procedures in this document, paying careful attention to key dates. Applications that are incomplete, late, or do not conform to the printed guidelines and instructions will not be accepted or considered by the BCLA Scholarship Research Committee. Application materials should be clipped together – do not staple. Proposals must include the following to be considered complete. Eligibility Criteria Tenure-line faculty in Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts are eligible to apply. Chairs of Departments are ineligible during their terms. A faculty member is eligible to receive a Fellowship only once in between regularly scheduled sabbaticals. A faculty member is not eligible to receive a Fellowship during the semester immediately before or after a regularly scheduled sabbatical. Faculty who have never held a College Fellowship are given preference over previous Fellows. Application Process & Deadlines 1. PROPOSAL NARRATIVE Provide a title and a project description with the six headings listed below, addressing all items in specific order. Since scholars from many fields will be evaluating the submissions, the proposal should be written free of academic jargon. Use 11 point font or higher with 1-inch margin on 8½ x 11 inch paper. Please number your pages. Project narrative must not exceed 5 single-spaced pages. An additional bibliography page listing references/citations pertinent to the project may be added as a 6th page. No other attachments or supplementary materials of any kind may be included. 1. PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Describe your project. defining any terms specific to your discipline. State research question(s) and goal(s) 2. SIGNIFICANCE: Discussion of the intellectual/theoretical significance of the project and its relationship to other work in the field should be clearly stated. 3. METHOD: The methodology or approach to the project should be outlined. 4. TIMELINE OF PROJECT: A detailed timetable for completion of the project should be provided. This should identify the current stage of the project and a realistic statement of what can be accomplished during the period of the grant. 5. STATEMENT: A clear statement regarding either the likelihood of completing a significant project for publication OR how the fellowship will allow the recipient to devote concentrated effort during a “critical” phase in a scholarly or creative project. 6. DISSEMINATION: If applicable, identify potential publishers for the project and any information that would allow an estimate of the likelihood of publication (e.g. book contract, assessment from an editor, comments in the project from experts, record of successful publication in similar sources in the past).
