MUED 526b: Criteria for evaluation of your paper
The following criteria will be used to assess your paper. Binary rubrics will be used for basic aspects of the paper
(items 1-7), and a Likert-type scale will be used to rate various aspects (items 8-20) of the writing assignment
(where 1=70%, 2=75%, 3=80%, 4=85%, 5=90%).
Basics
1. The paper was submitted on time (5 points deducted per day late).
2. The writer’s name and the date are on the paper.
3. The paper is a maximum of 3000 words.
4. A specific title is provided.
5. The assignment is double-spaced and has one-inch margins on standard A4 paper.
6. 12-point font (Times, Times Roman, Helvetica, or Arial typeface) is used.
7. The topic of the paper agrees with the topic of the proposal submitted on November 13, 2012.
8. The print out of the actual research paper is attached

Content
13. The paper begins with an introduction clearly presenting the topic
(i.e., the content area) on which the research paper focused.

14. Each paper identifies and/or provides a brief and clear description of the research questions
and methodology used by the researcher(s).

15. The researcher’s results and conclusions are provided that clearly articulate what is
intended by the researcher(s).

16. In a summary of the literature review, some inferences or personal insights are provided
regarding the implications of the research (perhaps on a planned research topic or major

project you may be planning to do in the future).
General features
17. You paraphrase in a professional manner and do not have an overabundance of quotes.
18. You demonstrate good comprehension of the content area.
19. Your overall presentation is logical and cohesive, and individual sections and paragraphs
follow good expository form.
20. The material presented is both necessary and sufficient to successfully make
a cohesive paper that is easy to read and enjoyable.
