Supplementary Note on Museums, Archives and Libraries across UK
Museums, archives and libraries are devolved matters and remain the responsibility of each of
the devolved administrations.
Further to the Memorandum of Understanding and supplementary agreements that exist
between the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), the Scottish Executive, the
Welsh Assembly Government and the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure in Northern
Ireland (DCAL), we agree that co-operation and communication on issues relating to museums,
archives and libraries is necessary and beneficial to all partners.
With this in mind, we will nominate relevant parties in each of our administrations to work
together to establish practical arrangements for taking this forward.
