JOB DESCRIPTIONS – RESIDENTIAL CARE SERVICES Residential Care Officer The postholder will provide a high quality standard of care for residents whilst supporting the Management Team in developing a flexible, caring, sensitive approach to service delivery and will take charge of the home in the absence of, or as part of, the Management Team. The postholder will be expected to behave in a professional manner at all times and develop professional relationships with other agencies including family. The responsibilities include: To be fully conversant with Base Values and Residents’ rights. To develop effective teamwork with staff group. Implementing County Policies and Procedures relating to standards of care and carry out those procedures competently e.g. accident, fire, medication. To develop a good professional relationship with families, friends and the local community. Maintain Care Procedures and all relevant Health and Safety Legislation. Taking responsibility for implementing and supervising good care practices to include Admission Procedure, Care Plans and reviews. Responsible for implementing Keyworker role and relevant procedures. To maintain essential documentation and provide factual reports. Supervision of Care Assistants. Become an NVQ Assessor. An NVQ Level 2 in Care, or willingness to attain this qualification is essential. The role of the Care Officer is varied and demanding. It is essential that the person fulfilling this role demonstrates appropriate qualities in manner, positive attitude, patience, understanding, respect and flexibility. Residential Care Assistant The postholder will provide a high quality standard of care for residents, whilst supporting the Management Team in developing a flexible, caring, sensitive approach to service delivery. The postholder is expected to behave in a professional manner at all times and develop professional relationships with other agencies including family. The responsibilities include: To carry out the medication policy, administration of drugs and relevant procedures. To always behave in a professional manner. To be fully conversant with Bases Values and be able to apply them to all procedures. To work effectively as part of a team and work co-operatively which includes being reliable and a good time keeper. You must be willing and capable to undertake all training relevant to the job, including achieving NVQ Level 2 in Care, if not already attained. It is essential that the person fulfilling this role demonstrates appropriate qualities in manner, positive attitude, patience, understanding and respect. Cook The purpose of the job is to provide a high quality standard of catering in the establishment. The postholder will be involved in the organisation of kitchen staff, providing training, direction and supervision where necessary. Also, the postholder must ensure Health and Safety in the kitchen, including food hygiene and ensure kitchen and associated areas are kept in a thoroughly clean condition. It is expected that the postholder behaves in a professional and caring manner at all times. The responsibilities include: To be fully conversant with the Base Values and Service Users Rights. Preparation and cooking of food and serving meals at required times. Planning and maintaining of menus according to dietary needs. Implementation of HACCP. Ordering of adequate food supplies and dealing directly with suppliers. Correct storage of goods including correct temperatures of frozen foods. Achievement of an NVQ Level 2 in Catering, or willingness to work towards achieving it, or City and Guilds qualification in Catering is essential. Kitchen Assistant The purpose of the job is to assist the cook in providing a high quality standard of catering in the establishment. The postholder must take direction from the cook and assist in ensuring Health and Safety in the kitchen, including food hygiene and ensuring kitchen and associated areas are kept in a thoroughly clean condition. The responsibilities include: To be fully conversant with Base Values and Residents Rights. Responsible for implementing the County Borough’s policies related to standards of catering and carry out associated procedures competently. Maintain procedures in line with statutory regulations, Environmental Health, General Health and Safety in particular C.O.S.H.H., Manual Handling, Personal Protective Equipment etc. Care of the Kitchen, ensuring it is maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Frequent cleaning of certain designated areas as decided by the Management Team. Kitchen and dining room duties (for example, laying and clearing of tables, washing up). Correct storage of foods including correct temperatures of frozen food etc. Stock control/Rotation of stock. Preparation of food/Assist in cooking of food. To keep up to date with new techniques and use of equipment. Achievement of an NVQ Level 2 in Catering, or willingness to work towards achieving it, or City and Guilds qualification in Catering is essential. Night Care Assistant/Domestic The Night Care Assistant/Domestic is responsible to the Officer in Charge and his/her Management Team. The postholder must provide, under the direction of the Night Care Officer, a high standard of care and support to residents by night. The responsibilities include: The care and support of residents. Safety and security of the Home. Domestic and laundry duties. To assist the Night Care Officers in maintaining essential documentation, including night care plans. To be fully conversant with Base Values and be able to apply them to all procedures. To carry out any domestic duties as per job description for the day domestics (see domestics description overleaf). Maintain procedures in line with statutory regulations, Health and Safety to include Environmental Health, COSHH, Manual Handling etc. Available to work occasional day shifts to monitor standards in care practices and look at individual training needs. Night staff must be familiar with: - Procedures regarding medication. - Energy conservation instructions. Achievement of NVQ level 1 in Cleaning and NVQ level 2 in Care, or a willingness to work towards achieving them is essential. Domestic The purpose of the Domestic post is to provide a high quality standard of house keeping in the establishment. The postholder will support the Management Team in developing a flexible, caring and sensitive approach to service delivery. The postholder will be expected to behave in a professional and caring manner at all times and to forge good links with family and agencies. The responsibilities include: To be fully conversant with Base Values and rights. Maintain procedures in line with statutory regulations, Environmental Health, general Health and Safety in particular COSHH, Manual Handling, Personal Protective Equipment etc. Care of the home, ensuring it is maintained in a clean, welcoming and hygienic condition. Care of the residents’ possessions and valuables in the course of cleaning their bedrooms, bed-making and associated housekeeping duties. Kitchen and dining room duties (for example laying and clearing of tables, washing up). Basic preparation of food when required. To keep up to date with new techniques and use of equipment. Laundry Duties (as required), which include - Collecting and sorting of laundry. - Washing, drying and ironing all laundry. - Ensure laundry room is maintained in a clean, safe and hygienic condition. -Ensure you fully understand the care and cleaning of all equipment to manufacturers’ instruction.
