RU comments on the Chair’s summary Page 1: The last three lines at the bottom of this page “It was also made clear that the system allows combinations of index options to be selected as search criteria, removing much of the need for detailed and /or repetitive indexing“ seems confusing since the fist part is evident and the second one after comma is at variance with the rule on the next page “All clearly visible features of a design should be indexed”. We think the expression “repetitive indexing” needs further clarifications. Page 2: Two rules were agreed from the feedback comments (the first is OK): “The indices WA (---) and/or WB (---) are only used where the design can mainly be reduced to that basic shape” In this statement we see some contradictions. If one uses WA and WB for the description of the design to what “basic shape” the design should be reduced? Perhaps the expression “basic shape” should be in plural form. If the design can not “mainly be reduced to that basic form” are the indices WA and/or WB not used at all? Item 5: Since in the column “W applies to” the option “part” is included we consider helpful to add the term “overall” to the option “Shape”. In our opinion for the option “Part” it is better to use a plural form. Solely to overall shape Solely to ornamentation Both to Shape and to Ornamentation To Parts Re: Annex 2 For W category we propose the following changes: 1) We prefer the addition to W category as follows: “The category may also apply to the parts of the product”. In the options: Overall shape Ornamentation Both Shape & Ornamentation Parts 2) The text in round brackets “including insects, fish and extinct” after the wording of category WE “Humans and human like forms” should be deleted. 1 For X category: XC We understand the term ”arrangements” as “appliances” or “devices” so instead of “Controls and arrangements of Buttons, Switches, Knobs, Keys, Illuminating indicators” we would prefer “Arrangement of Controls, Buttons, ---“ since XC does not cover buttons, switches and etc. as such but their allocation on the described surface. According to the terminology of International Patent Classification the expression “arrangement of” is a synonym of “placing” or “allocation”. Perhaps it’s better to have here “footstools” instead of “footrests” since in other cases this term means a part of a chair, an armchair or a bar-chair. 3 If so should we have “footrests” together with “armrests”, “backrests”, “headrests” under item 5? We propose to add “fishing seats”.
