Year of Mercy Pope Francis has announced the Year of Mercy, with the purpose of proclaiming God’s mercy to all people, and for the church to "make more evident its mission to be a witness of mercy." The year begins with the opening of the Holy Door of Mercy in the Basilica of St. Peter, December 8, 2015 by Pope Francis.
