PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

1994 – current > Science and Operations Officer, NOAA National Weather Service,

Davenport, Iowa – responsible for staff training on science and technology issues related to hydrometeorological forecast and warning operations. Established climate and fire weather programs including development of customer base and needs assessment; participated on national climate web page design team. Active participant in outreach programs focusing on translating complex science issues to customers (e.g. radar interpretation for emergency managers, technical training for media); office leader and mentor for AMS DataStreme and

Water in the Earth System courses for K-12 teachers for the past 9 years. Lead and conduct local research designed to increase scientific knowledge base and improve services. Served two terms on the AMS Severe Local Storms committee since 1998; reviewer for the AMS Bulletin,

Weather and Forecasting, and the NWA Digest.

1990-1994 > Forecaster, NOAA National Weather Service, Denver, Colorado – forecast and warning service provider for state of Colorado including hazards of flash flooding, severe convective storms, winter storms and fire weather. Local projects included verification of winter storms and new forecast techniques; collaborative work with Forecast Systems Lab including research case studies of local flash flood and severe storm events; and development of Front

Range flash flood threat assessment guide for internal training.

1985-1990 > Agricultural Forecaster, NOAA National Weather Service, Mid-South

Agricultural Weather Service Center, Stoneville, Mississippi – provided agricultural weather forecasts and information for varied ag interests (crop, livestock, poultry, aquaculture) in

Mississippi, Tennessee, Arkansas and Louisiana; frequently worked with specialists from other disciplines to develop forecast tools to increase and enhance services. Interacted with ag producers on a regular basis to determine needs and assess impacts of services; delivered educational presentations to increase effectiveness of services. Member NWA agricultural meteorology and weather and forecasting committees.

VOLUNTEER AND MISCELLANEOUS EXPERIENCE
