Final Concert With Retiring Music Director William Thomas
CAMBRIDGE COMMUNITY CHORUS TO SING HAYDN'S 'HARMONY MASS'
AND COLERIDGE-TAYLOR'S 'HIAWATHA'S WEDDING FEAST' MAY 25
The Cambridge Community Chorus and Orchestra will present Franz Joseph Haydn's "Harmony Mass"
and British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor's "Hiawatha's Wedding Feast" at the group's Spring Concert on
Sunday, May 25 at 3 pm at Sanders Theatre, Harvard University.
"If you love choral music and are planning to be around town Memorial Day weekend, we urge you to
come to this very special concert," said Chorus President Janet Rustow. "As many of our friends know, this
will be the last concert conducted by William Thomas, who has been our Music Director since the Chorus was
founded in 1990. We hope all those who, like us, have been inspired by his exceptional direction over the
years will join us for one more afternoon of wonderful music under his baton."
Maestro Thomas is retiring after the Spring Concert, and the Chorus will begin its 19th season next fall
under new direction. For his final concert, Thomas chose Haydn's last Mass and Coleridge-Taylor's romantic
1898 musical setting of the wedding verses from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's famous poem, "The Song of
Hiawatha." Soloists for the May 25 concert include: Barbara Kilduff, soprano; Krista River, alto; Charles
Blandy, tenor; and Philip Lima, baritone. Admission is $10 ($5 for seniors and students), and tickets can be
purchased at the Harvard University Box Office, (617) 496-2222, or at the door. For more information, please
call (617) 354-4390 or visit www.cambridgechorus.org.
The non-profit Cambridge Community Chorus is a diverse community group that presents three
concerts per year—an annual performance of Handel's "Messiah," a spring concert of major choral works, and
an informal "Cambridge Sings" in October. The Chorus also performs at various city events, and receives
partial support from the Cambridge Arts Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
