CONSTITUTION OF THE WILLIAM AND MARY RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB
Article I. NAME
The name of this organization shall be the William and Mary Rugby Football Club.
Article II. PURPOSE
The purpose of this organization shall be to develop sportsmanship and gentlemanly
conduct through competition in rugby. Further to represent the College of William and
Mary honorably in all of its activities.
Article III. MEMBERSHIP
Membership in the organization shall be open to all those students, alumni,
administrators, and staff within the affiliation of the College of William and Mary.
Membership in matches is restricted to undergraduate males, as according to Virginia
Rugby Union rules.
Article IV. OFFICERS
The elected officers of this organization shall be President, Captain, Match Secretary,
Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, and the Social Chair. The Coach must be a certified
coach under USA Rugby regulations. Other offices may be created by the Governing
Board as needed. The Governing Board shall be comprised of the above mentioned
officers.
Section 1.
Article V. DUTIES OF OFFICERS
The President shall:
a. Preside over all meetings of this organization with the exception of
practices;
b. Make sure that all officers are effectively performing their duties;
c. Maintain contact with Old Boys (graduated members)
Section 2.
The Captain shall:
a. Act as leader of the team on the pitch;
b. Prepare the pitch for home matches;
c. Be responsible for the equipment of the organization.
Section 3.
The Match Secretary shall:
a. Schedule matches;
b. Reserve the pitch for all home matches;
c. Schedule referees for home matches.
Section 4.
The Treasurer shall:
a. Keep track of and manage the team’s financial books;
b. Order equipment for the team and members of the team.
Section 5.
The Public Relations Chair Shall:

Organize and run recruitment efforts;
Improve public awareness of Tribe rugby;
Organize public support at home matches;
Maintain and/or improve relations with the community;
Search out new sponsors for the squad.
Section 6.
The Social Chairman shall:
a. Organize social activities for the club to strengthen squad unity;
b. Organize social gatherings after home matches to host visiting teams
according to gentlemanly behaviour.
Section 7.
The Coach Shall:
a. Organize practices;
b. Act as leader at practices.
Section 8.
The Selectors shall be constituted of the Captain and the Coach and shall
select teams for matches.
Section 9.
The Governing Board shall:
a. Institute any additional offices that will be needed;
b. Appoint members of the team to these new offices;
c. Govern the team, giving it direction in policies and goals.
Article VI. ELECTIONS AND APPOINTMENTS
Section 1.
Election of officers shall take place at homecoming each year following
the Old Boy’s match.
Section 2.
A majority of votes from members who are present shall elect.
Section 3.
Appointments made by the Governing Board must be approved through a
majority vote by the members.
Section 4.
The President may call for a vote of no confidence in any officer provided
one other officer seconds his motion. A vote of no confidence in the President may be
called by a majority of the Governing Board discounting the President himself.
Article VII. MEETINGS
Regular and special meetings shall be called and scheduled by the Governing Board.
Article VIII. DUES
Section 1.
Dues shall be paid by each member of the organization.
Section 2.
The amount to be paid shall be decided on by the Governing Board.

only one practice is attended during the week an excuse is required for at least one of the

Section 1.
Amendments to this constitution may be submitted by any member. Such
amendments shall be submitted in writing to any member of the Governing Board.
Section 2.
Such proposed amendments shall be voted on at the next meeting. A twothirds majority of the Governing Board officers present shall be necessary for the
adoption of amendments to this constitution.
Article XI. RATIFICATION
This constitution shall become effective upon ratification by a majority of the
membership and by approval of the Dean of Student Organizations.
