During my posting as a resident in Pediatrics I gained experience in managing a wide
variety of medical emergencies and routine cases. I was involved in cases like meningitisacute
pyogenic
anaphylaxis,
Rheumatic
as
well
metabolic
Heart
as
chronic
disturbances,
Disease
and
its
tubercular,
ARDS,
viral
acute
complications,
meningo-encephalitis,
severe
asthma,
hypertensive
shock,
Congenital
emergencies,
and
status
epilepticus, enteric fever and its varied complications, malaria, acute gastroenteritis and
management of different degrees of dehydration, hepatic failure and encephalopathy,
diabetic ketoacidosis, burns, poisoning, etc.
Main duties during senior residency:

Attendance at consultant ward rounds.

Day to day care of sick babies including ELBWs.

Attendance of deliveries for Neonatal resuscitation, including premature babies

Initiation of Ventilation and Surfactant administration.

Transport of sick newborns from distant areas by air or surface.

Actively involved in CME Programme of the department

Clerking of patients and arriving at a working diagnosis & initial management plan.

Formulating Treatment protocols in consultation with Consultants during emergency
and routine work.

Attending consultant ward rounds & presentation of cases at rounds.




RESEARCH EXPERIENCE

Thesis in DNB: “Seroprevalence of Hepatitis A in Indian Children.”
This was a prospective supervised study for a period of one year involving 100 children,
who attended OPD or were admitted for non-hepatic causes, to determine the
seroprevalence of Hepatitis A in children of different age groups and socio-economic
classes.
