CLASS STRUCTURE: Students may obtain content explanation from the textbook and videos which accompany the textbook as well as through the online MyMathLab site. In a distance learning course, students must be very responsible. You must seek help as soon as it is needed. Email and Internet access are required. The student-instructor interaction takes place via MyMathLab and email, so it is important that you provide the instructor with your email address and verify your email address on MyMathLab/Course Compass. As you approach problems within the course content, please post detailed questions on the discussion board on the MyMathLab/CourseCompass site or use the “Ask my instructor” link next to each homework problem; likewise respond to postings if you have information to share. EXPECTATIONS: Students are expected to participate in the class by posting messages and responses on the Discussion Board as appropriate. Hence, it may be necessary to complete more work to understand and learn the material. TESTS: You must take 6 tests during the quarter (not including the final exam). All of the tests are closed books and closed notes and are available for you to take within a 48-hour period of time allowing you 90 minutes to complete the test once you open it. You should allow yourself at least 90 minutes for each test. However, due to the individuality of each student, some tests may not take 90 minutes to complete. The final exam is closed book and closed notes. You may use a calculator. Any student scoring less than 25% on the final will receive an automatic F (0.0). However, you should realize that 25% or better on the final does not guarantee a passing grade. You should allow at least 2 hours for the final exam. Emergency Procedures for Classrooms Call 911 and then Campus Safety in response to an imminent threat to persons or property. In the event of an evacuation (intermittent horns & strobes), gather all personal belongings and leave the building using the nearest available safe exit. Be prepared to be outside for one hour and stay a minimum of 200 feet from any building or structure. So long as it is safe to do so students are expected to stay on campus and return to class after evacuations that last less than 15 minutes. You cannot retake an exam. All exams are closed book/closed notes. You must obtain at least a 2.0 (or 75%) in order to proceed to the next mathematics course. Absolutely no incompletes will be given in the course. However, by written request (by email), the instructor will submit an NC (no credit) grade (see the Pierce College catalog or your academic advisor for more information).
