A voice comes from heaven and calls us beloved.
Water washes over us and we are changed.
A voice tells us we are precious in God’s sight.
Our love, praise, and gratitude greet the Spirit who
blesses us in baptism.
Leader Let us worship the One who calls from the water – the God
of love and transformation.
*INVOCATION
*OPENING HYMN #6
“All Creatures of Our God and King”
*CALL TO CONFESSION
*UNISON PRAYER OF CONFESSION
God of water and spirit, it is hard to hear Your voice calling
us beloved amid the noise of voices around us that tell us we are
worthless. Even when we hear Your voice, it is hard to believe the
depth of Your love for us amid the messages of the world that tell
us we are far from precious. Open our ears, Beloved One, to hear
Your voice. Open our eyes to see Your amazing presence in this
world. Help us feel Your strength filling us and enabling us to be
and do what You call us to be and do. Forgive our doubts, our
excuses, our inability to hear and see and feel You in our lives and
in the world around us. We would claim our true identity: the
beloved daughters and sons of God – washed, named, claimed and
transformed. AMEN.
*WORDS OF ASSURANCE
*GLORIA PATRI
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, amen.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Sunday School – We are currently offering two different adult studies.
Pastor Mauri is leading his adult class on the Heidelberg Catechism in the
Social Hall. If you did not attend previous classes and are interested in
coming for the first time, that’s perfectly all right. A Bible-based study
led by Dave Sullivan will be held in the Calvin Room. We hope you’ll join
us this morning!
Children and Communion - If you have had discussions in your family
about your children receiving communion at the Lord’s Table, and are
interested in going through some classes with Pastor Mauri on this
subject, please contact him and let him know of your interest. He is open
to starting a class in the next few months.
Books – A number of books were given to NSPC by Pat Kaldy’s family. If
you would like to have one of Pat’s books, they are available on the table
in the Calvin Room.
Grandparents@prayer will next meet on Sunday, January 20 in the
Calvin Room immediately after worship. All grandparents, as well as
those in need of praying, are invited to join. If you have a prayer request
and cannot attend, let Pat Whisler know.
Saints and Sinners Winter Night Out – We hope you’ll join us for a fun
evening out at Tinitique Restaurant in Bridgewater on Saturday,
February 2nd! RSVP to Judy Lipcsak at jdylip@gmail.com.
Global Links – We support this ministry all year by collecting medical
and personal hygiene items to be sent to foreign countries in need. Don
Aiken is organizing a trip in January to their new facility in Pittsburgh to
help sort/pack supplies, and he would like to take a lot of donations with
him! A detailed flyer with donation ideas is available in the Narthex.
Newsletter – Please remember that information for February’s
newsletter is due on Sunday, January 20th. Thanks!
“Growing Through Grief” - A four week support group for those dealing
with the death of a loved one will be conducted at Wurtemburg
Presbyterian Church. This free ministry is being led by Rev. Dr. Daniel
Stinson in cooperation with the Turner Funeral Home. The sessions will be
held on Wednesdays January 16 - February 6. Participants may choose
the time that best suits their schedules: 10:00 a.m. or 7:00 p.m. Please

ADDITIONAL PRAYER CONCERNS
Email communication has taken away the need for the “miniparish” call list. The deacons thank the folks of NSPC who have
served as mini-parish leaders over the past 10 years. We are now
creating a much smaller “call list” for those who do not have a
computer or use email. If you would like to be included on this
call list, complete the information below and place in the offering
plate.

Sermon Outline for
“Why Was Jesus Baptized?”
Text: Luke 3:15-17, 21-22
I.
If Jesus was perfect, without sin, why did He get baptized,
since baptism was about repenting and purification?
II.
We can boil down our answer to three specific reasons.
A. He was baptized to ____________ with humanity.
B. Jesus was also baptized to ________________ to us.
C. Lastly, He was also baptized to be _______________.
III. Are you obeying God’s revealed will for your life? Be
assured that God cannot bless you or work through you in
power until you surrender to Him.
IV. You are anointed for service if you are in Christ. Don’t be
scared – serve Him.
