AIM OF JOB:
To support the Force’s data warehouse by defining and
applying standards and ensuring the integrity of those
standards
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

To liaise with other sections of the Branch regarding the availability, content and integrity of the
Force data warehouse.

To set up and monitor data warehouse maintenance and housekeeping activities to minimize day
to day housekeeping and maximise system availability.

To liaise with external suppliers on all matters relating to the data warehouse, specifically this will
include the quality assurance of all work suppliers are proposing to undertake.

To supervise and co-ordinate the work of supplier resources to ensure smooth implementation
and upgrades that minimise downtime and ensure supplier resources work to appropriate
standards and quality.

To investigate problems and identify potential options for resolution. Once the solution is agreed,
to implement and monitor corrective action.

To be part of a team of technical specialists to investigate and resolve complex environment wide
problems ensuring all issues and dependencies in relation to the data warehouse and taken into
account.

To support the users of the data warehouse by resolving problems and issues, and providing
advice and guidance, particularly with respect to efficiency of queries.

To work with other in-house development specialists on data warehouse design and appropriate
query mechanism to minimise performance issues.

To work as a proactive member of the data management team, balancing your individual work
demands and deadlines for fault investigations and project implementations, along with other
related urgent and priority work for the team.

To design and undertake testing activities for in-house developed systems, specifically to provide
quality assurance and recommend approval to proceed to live running.

To promote and comply with GMP's policies on equal opportunities and health and safety both in
the delivery of services and the treatment of others.

To ensure staff adhere to relevant Force procedures in relation to Information management by
ensuring appropriate processes are in place to monitor compliance in relating to the collection,
recording, evaluation and sharing of information and providing the appropriate feedback to
maintain and improve information quality in compliance with the Code of Practice on Management
of Police Information 2005, Data Protection Act 1998, and the Freedom of Information Act 2005
as appropriate.

To comply with the requirements of GMP's policies on Drug and Alcohol testing –
requirements in respect of specific posts/ roles are described in the policies which are
available on the Force Intranet

To be responsible for improving your performance by participating in the Performance Appraisal
process with your manager.

To carry out such other duties which are consistent with the nature, responsibilities and grading of
the post.

activities, including the production of related documentation for
corporate business systems
Experience of operating system control activities such as input,
output, dynamic resource allocation and error reporting
Recognised qualification in computer related discipline (preferably
to degree level or equivalent)
Experience in the application of automated tools to enable selective
access to data.
Desirable:
Knowledge and understanding of appropriate technical solutions for

Working towards an database certification (at least half examinations
passed)
