Definitions
IDEAL refers to Bransford's IDEAL model for problem solving (Identify, Define,
Explore, Act, Look back and evaluate).
Edward de Bono’s 6 hats also known as ‘Six Thinking Hats’ represent thinking
processes which help important decisions to be looked at from a number of different
perspectives.

The problem needs to have sufficient substance for a problem solving method to be
applied.

Assessment must be on the basis of individual performance in either a solo or group
activity.

The problem is defined in terms of type of problem, parties involved, effects and
ownership.

Choose a problem solving method for an identified problem.

Evidence requirements
2.1
A problem solving method is described in terms of process steps.
2.2
A problem solving method is selected and explained in terms of its suitability for
solving the identified problem.
Outcome 3
Apply the problem solving method and describe the outcome.
Evidence requirements
3.1
The chosen method is applied to the identified problem.
3.2
Results of applying the method to the problem are described in terms of the
outcome achieved and conclusions regarding further action.
